I have watched quite a few Substance Designer Tutorials and graph breakdowns, but I found yours to be one of the best and easiest to follow, love how you take the time to explain the "why" of each node series you do and the way you present each chunk in a logical way. It made the whole process super clear and easy to follow. Thanks for all the effort you put into this it shows!

While making a tutorial for new beginners , its probably very very wise to start from scratch , you know like a new project with nothing on the screen and start from square 1... meaning not have the screen loaded with a bunch of stuff that has already been in progress to someone completely new otherwise you will just confuse them... bad tutorial.

I usually get so distracted or sleepy watching those hour and a half long video explanations of a industry professional talking about the technicalities of Perlin noise math. Your video was simple, easy to understand, and your cheesy jokes made it so entertaining and funny to watch. Thank you so much for this video :)

While I skipped most of the tutorial, it's invaluable for people new to these concepts to learn before delving into deeper subjects. I would recommend eventually explaining the thought process behind creating a texture, meaning how to look at a texture and break it down further into specific shapes and noises, which it looks like you are already doing (a bit). I haven't seen a texture tutorial that does that, so it's refreshing to see you breaking down the texture thought process instead of just showing how to make a particular texture. Eventually you should get some images online and go through the full process, explaining how you go from seeing a texture you want to make to having it complete in Substance Designer (SD). Not just showing us how to make a texture, but explaining the workflow and giving us an idea of how to make it. Anyway, I think I'm "rambling" now. This is a great start for SD tutorials.

It's really hard for beginners, am a complete beginner, and this video is still confusing, even though it is meant for beginners. I think sometimes people loose the ability to explain to complete beginners once they become more experienced.

Hello, I'm very new to Substance and environment art in general, I saw your portfolio and there was a specific material: Byzantine Architecture, that I was very curious about how would you be able to use it a game engine, since in designer we're working with height and tessellation to make things pop out, and in game materials it seems that using height isn't proper, and tessellation you'd need high res meshes, so to apply a material like that to a lets say a modular wall, would make the texture first and model a low poly on top of it? Or would it be better to make a Trim Sheet version of it? This thing me makes crazy, I've seen full SD materials with bunch of extrusion, etc, and I created some materials in SD and they look very different in other software from what they look in SDs viewport with tessellation. PS: My English is quite basic, hope I could make it clear to understand.

Oh, how about we have some kind of variation to "sculpt you rock in zbrush for an hour" challenge (whatsitcalled) in Designer? Something like "make a texture in an hour in Designer" but with cool name and all that... :)

Same here. I am confounded about some of the nodes, like the Flood Fills, Tile Sampler, Distance, and a lot more. There are no really solid full tutorials on all the nodes and different ways to use them. That is what is making this so hard for me. I hope that there is a course out there that explains Substance Dedigber simply, but giving a lot of really valuable information. These days everyone just does Timelapses or just showing a material with an incredibly complicated graph that somebody made, rather than showing how to make it from a blank project to the finished product, with explanations on every step. Kind of disappointing but I’ll keep trying and looking for a good tutorial(s) or series of videos teaching SD.
