Yes, except that Hogan was left handed and played right handed.

The graphs that Zach Allen shows in the video are by Jon Sinclair who has captured literally hundreds of tour pro swings using a 3D inertial sensor system called 'AMM 3D'. Jon Sinclair also produced trail forearm graphs for 65 of the best tour pros (PGA and Major winners). Their average trail forearm graph shows supination as Zach has described in the video until maybe P6.5 (ie. maybe 2-3 foot from impact). That is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of what Pete Cowen is advocating and I doubt very much that the 3D graphs of the pros he is coaching will show early pronation/spinning of the trail forearm. I've heard Pete Cowen talking about natural forces and physics , but I don't think he understands the physics of the golf swing at all. He may be the world's best coach but his explanation of what he thinks is happening in the golf swing is unscientific. However , if it works for you then fine but I am surprised that he doesn't look at the data first before advocating this spinning of the trail forearm. Maybe he can also provide proof that the spinning of the trail forearm can create more compression of the golf ball in the 0.0004 secs that the clubface is in contact with the golf ball (for a typical 100 mph clubhead speed at impact).

Looking for some clarity, or affirmation. So when the trail wrist bends backwards it causing the trail elbow to in toward are in front of hip. The lead arm rotates away from the target which places the back of the lead hand facing away from my body. As I rotate away from the ball these hand and forearm positions are maintained. Does the foreman rotate or twist toward the target in the diwnswing?

Great drill, believe it or not just on my own I used to swing that way on the course (without any knowledge about the drill or forearm rotation) some 30 years ago. It got me from about a 22 to a 14 and then later on didn't need the stop at the 1/2 way point.

My question is, do they actually move their lower body sort of physically, or is it just hapoening? Because if i pretend my stick is really heavy, and pull it down towards the ground, my feet automatically does everything they should automatically and on video it looks as if my legs start first. So do these golfers actually even move their legs conciously or is it just a reaction from pulling down? And then, if this is not the case, then should we even pull the club down, or JUST use our legs😂 because from my testing, just using legs, makes the arms move really fast as well😂 i am getting pretty good, but god I can't even get the mpst basic of concepts, because no matter what i try, everything just works😂 but i am no where near pro distances, and my swing feels a bit off.. just so damn frustrating

Absolute bad advice can lead to players misinterpreting the tilt! You don’t tilt you just rotate in your posture which already is tilted at address. this advice could lead to reverse tilting or tilting too much !

Wow that is highly wrong. If you look at 3D spine graphs. They do not stay in there original posture at all. It just appears that way on video. Stay tuned I will do another video soon on this very subject because it is so widely misunderstood.

Normally do not comment, but this video is outstanding. Played golf for over 60 years, still single digit handicap, but have always fought early extension. Zach described my swing in the last of his examples at the beginning of the video. His instruction is so clear I now have the process to eliminate that fault. Can't wait until it feels natural through practice. Thank you, Zach!

There are some instructors that suggest that the early turn as well as the arm roll over takeaway faults can be traced back to earlier posture faults at address. They might suggest that the center of the hips being too far behind the heels (downline view) would cause these faults, and that putting the center of the hips above the ankles at address and the hands below the shoulders at address (instead of the hands extending and reaching out beyond the shoulders) will lead to a takeaway where the hands and club stay underneath the shoulders better and for longer in the takeaway. Would you agree?
@CurtisPanfil11 күн бұрын
This is huge. I recently read Hogan's book and have been working on my swing for the past year and a half...time for some lessons but I laughed when your video came up in the algorithm because I do this waggle already subconsciously...just started within the last couple months. Never picked it up because someone told me to, just started doing it. It helps center me, and gets me calm, gets my swing in motion without standing over the ball too long.

You say that some golfers turn their body too much in the takeaway, but which muscles do you mostly use in the takeaway - your wrists and arms, your shoulders or your core muscles?

There is something I don’t understand Zack. I just watched a few of your other videos where are you emphasizing that what what starts the backswing is the action of the lower body that drives the upper body into sequencing (shoulders,arms..). Now in this video, I seem to understand that you are saying the opposite regarding the backswing. You are talking about starting with the end the shoulders and at the end moving? Am I misunderstanding what you meant? Thank you for taking the time.

This video covers all the important aspects of the golf swing. Really focusing on lag, club shaft lean and covering the ball has made a world of difference in my ball striking. Great video!
Zach, I am watching your videos with particular attention and actually I am getting the point very good. Congratulations for your nice explanations!

Ben Hogan was a natural hooker of the golf ball and worked tirelessly to adjust his swing accordingly. Keep in mind that the bane of 90 percent of all beginning golfers and weekend hackers is the slice. Using Hogan's fundamentals can and will tend to accentuate your fades and slices, since his techniques were designed for that very purpose. Unless you are a natural hooker of the ball, use caution when incorporating Hogan's techniques.

Well, your swing student is certainly a very natural golfer. And, he has the ability to get down to a very low handicap. But, you are right to highlight his head position at impact. Such is his natural ability, he could still improve despite this; but, he, also, could just as easily injure his neck. He does have a slight lordois of his cervical spine at address, which can be easily fixed by just simply pressing back with the base of his neck as he gets into the address position. And, of course, if he then raises his position, at address, by pressing back with the base of his neck, to look up at the target, this will ensure that his posture will be perfect. Stretching and strengthening the base of the neck is key. When builds this into his game it will make it much easier for him to cock his head to the side; and, press down slightly with the left of hid head slightly as he cocks it to the side. And, this will ensure that he drives thru the shot, without his head dropping down and getting stuck in the follow thru.

Yes, "as ye waggle so shall ye swing"; but, i want to tell you that there is a new and improved way of waggling the club, which actually integrates the waggle into our pre swing routine. If you grip the club lightly, when you initially take your grip, at address; and, then raise your position, to look up at the target, the weight of the club will actually press the club up against the heel pad of your left hand. This arches the hand slightly; and, it, also, presses the hand fowards, which, in effect, waggles the club back. The extensors, in the hand, extend passively, which gives the hand more flexion. The club is returned to the ball in exactly the same way as you would normally return it to the ball in the waggle- by pressing the index finger side of the left hand towards the adjacent thumb pad of the right hand, which is, also, how the club is returned to the ball from the top of the backswing.
@kriezler15 күн бұрын
Thanks for the lesson. After the flexion/rotation, do you rotate the right hand any more than it naturally does due the the flexion/rotation?

Zach, I noted that you used my custom-made image of the graphs of lead/trail forearm supination. I actually do not mind that you used my image. I agree with your criticism of Pete Cowen's trail arm/forearm spinning concept. I have analysed his concept in great depth. To read my analysis, use the google search engine to find the "Newton Golf Institute golf forum". Then, go to the "Golf Swing Instruction" subsection. Then, go to the thread called "Rory McIlroy's favorire drill". Then, go and read my lengthy post dated May 9th, 2024. Jeff Mann. (aka "Imperfect Golfer").
