We want his weight to be forward so when he starts he is “falling” forward and has to get his feet going. We don’t want an even stance like the OL but we don’t want all his weight forward like the DL. Kind of a happy medium in between, if that makes sense. Hope that helps. Thanks for the questions! We like him in a 3-point stance for a couple of reasons. It keeps him low for Belly, Trap and Dive. Keeping the shoulder pads low for contact at the LOS. It makes it hard for LBs to see him and improves his fakes as well. I know some guys like their FBs in the 2-point so the back can have better eyes on the defense pre-snap. I get that. I just like the extra bit of deception that I think we get from the 3-point as well as the help with keeping the pad level lower. How that helps Coach.

Incorrect. Tubby Raymond and Ted Kepmski would disagree with you. This is Wing-T and Buck. Buck Sweep is identified by the split action in the backfield, FB going one way, HB going the other. It is also characterized by the two pulling Guards, one for the kick one for the wrap. Lastly, it is not a sweep to the outside, it is an off tackle play. All of these plays have these attributes. Why do you think it is not Buck Sweep?

@davidthomason9476
@davidthomason9476 2 жыл бұрын
To deal with that potential collision, we have the center step towards the Waggle (ie: when Waggling to the right out of 900 formation) the C will step right to cover for the pulling G. We have the FB stick to his Trap path and block away from the Waggle (using the same example) the FB would end up blocking on the left of the C. Obviously this removes the FB from being a receiver on Waggle. It works for us, but some traditionalists may like it a little different. Does that help?

We have used that jab step to help timing when we have a fast FB. We generally want the FB to dive straight away at the line and for the QB to give up the Mid-line to the FB. Do you always send TE and Wing onto First Backer Inside? Why not backers Head up or outside of the wing?
@davidthomason9476
@davidthomason9476 3 жыл бұрын
We want to build a wall at the inside LB. We are setting trap up with our Buck Sweep. Fakes here are important. When the HB is faking Buck Sweep the OLB has to respect it or we're going to burn him with Buck Sweep. We also want our TEs/WBs to look like they're blocking Buck. By sending them to a "party at the LB" we are also making it look like Buck at least for the first few steps. So, when we get the good fake and the build a wall at the ILB we can get big yards with Trap. If the OLB stars making the play, then we're gonna run Buck and make him pay. Usually that OLB as well as the playside DE either get too far up field or are so worried by Buck Sweep that by the time they realize its Trap, the play is already by them. Hope that helps.

@davidthomason9476
@davidthomason9476 4 жыл бұрын
Coach we adjusted to run some “short sweep” a couple of times. We usually do this as a game time adjustment and some times in the game plan. When that DE is to tough for our WB to handle or he is just an anchor and refuses to get washed down on the down block, we will run short sweep. It hits a little quicker as it’s one hole inside of where our Buck usually ends up at but it’s just as good against some stubborn DEs. I know we can run Down with the same affect and we do. I just like having extra tools in the tool box. And being able to attack the same spot with a slightly different look can mess with defensive game plans. Also, to be honest there is a couple of blown assignments by our WB in this clip, but the Guards and the RB adjusted real well. Just so you know our base rules for the WB on Buck is Gap/Down/Backer for us. Hope that helps.

Coach good stuff. Wing back #21 follows our rules (influence end man block outside backer) but at 1:00 a different kid plays wing and he just blocks down. Why the different look? Just the kid, you change rules or is it just a different defensive look that changed it? Thanks for any reply.
@davidthomason9476
@davidthomason9476 4 жыл бұрын
Coach, Thanks for the question. It was more of a personnel issue. We suffered an injury to our starting FB the week before in the league championship game and had to shuffle the backfield. The guy at WB (#30) was actually a SE his whole career until that week. We had a lot to teach him and tried to keep things simple for him as we prepared for round 1 of the play-offs. We can and sometimes to change the WB's blocking based on game plan. This time however we were scrambling to fill a spot. FYI: We're at a very small school. I only get about 34-36 kids combined for JV/Varsity.

Coach, early in film the bsg stays home. What dictates pull or no pull?
@davidthomason9476
@davidthomason9476 4 жыл бұрын
We allow our backside guard (BSG) to stay home if he sees a stunting LB. The line of thinking is that he's supposed to block that guy when he pulls anyways and if he is stunting and causing issues in our mesh, we can stop the issues in the mesh and still block the same guy. We can game plan it (think stunting stack 3 defenses) or allow the player to make the call. That said, the BSG has got to be experienced in this. We won't let a Freshman, first time starter make that call. Heck, most Freshmen don't even know that is a possibility. More often than not it's a game planning call. We make the BSG aware of a possible stunt and tell him to keep his head up and eyes open.

This is a very interesting way to block buck with the wing skipping his inside man and going straight to backer. Forces a quicker cut, and is more off tackle than flank. 1:49 being the exception. Was this on purpose/ easier block for your personnel?
@davidthomason9476
@davidthomason9476 4 жыл бұрын
A little of both to be honest Coach. It hits a little like Down but to the HB instead of the FB and has helped out our WBs that struggle blocking. We tell the WB to block down/LB like any other good Wing-T coach. We stress the train in the tracks type of blocking so that we don’t chase the block. We also tell them if he lines up head up or outside to either chip from the TEs block to LB or straight to the LB if the TE is cool. But apparently our WB only heard the second half of his rules. “Don’t block head up to outside.” So instead of taking his down block steps, and staying like a train on its tracks, he thought it was quicker to skip around to the LB. We didn’t really notice it until we were able to check out the film after the game. But it seemed to work. And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. So we rolled with it. It’s a nice adjustment to have in your tool box.

If you’re running the Wing-T, it does. We want to make the defense see what looks like the same exact back field action for the first few steps as much as possible. So for Trap, we want the backfield to look like Trap, but also Buck Sweep and Waggle too. Since those three plays attack the defense differently in different places having the same backfield action for the first few steps is gonna freeze the defense just a little and keep them honest at the same time. Coach, first thing I'd tell you is to check out Coach Murphy's website. I purchased some of his videos but did not buy his playbook. As far as my playbook is concerned, I don't really have a physical one. If you wanna share an email address with me we can start a conversation about it though. That said with the basic formations we show in this video, Buck Sweep, Waggle Counter XX are bundled into one Series. While Belly (ISO), Belly Counter and Belly Keep Pass are in another Series. Formation depending (WR/Slot on the backside) you can add a Bubble on the backside very easily to all of the above plays (except maybe Waggle and Keep Pass). If you've got a QB that you wanna run, you can easily option off of a backside 2 Tech.-5 Tech D-lineman on most of these plays. There is obviously a lot more you can do if you want to use more than a basic set of formations. Hope that helps. Get me an email and lets start talking football.

Are you talking about Belly Counter (it is a Tackle Trap). If so we would be Gap/Down/LB across the front except for the PST, TE & WB. We send the PST & TE at the middle LB while the WB will run his Belly Sweep track behind the formation if not in motion already (think Rocket/Jet). The BST will pull and block the first opposite color jersey past the PSG. FB Fakes Belly and replaces the BST, HB takes a counter step to the outside then back across the formation taking the hand off from the QB. The QB reverse pivots rides the FB on his Belly fake then gives to the HB as he comes across. Hope that's what you were asking for.
