For me it was automatic and I didn't have to fiddle with settings. There is a microphone setting on the beacon but right now it's grayed out on firmware 1.1.0. They will probably enable it once they are able to get the sound to merge with the video file automatically is my assumption

@@DudeNStuff Interesting, I'll need to have some time dedicated to the audio when I have a second to breath... Did you find a reasonable way to sync the audio? they have weird names that don't correspond to the audio name... is it just. case of counting and hoping for the best? Thanks

@@adsertheblade Yeah, the fastest way for me to match up clips to audio is by looking at the audio length when using file explorer. Also i found the audio is off by exactly 0.3 seconds so be sure to offset it if you plan on using it for syncing lips and etc. I hope they know that when they automatically merge the 2 haha...

The sound files are actually located on the drone. You'll have to plug the hover into your computer and turn the drone on. Once you do that, it will appear as a drive. Open the drive and you'll see your video files along with an "Audio" folder. The sound files are in that folder.

@@SirKayTravels yes you can connect a phone for live viewing as well. Beacon helps with tracking. It's not an absolute necessity but it can be paired with joysticks for more precise control if you want as well.

@@DudeNStuff thanks for the quick response. I'm just wondering what combo to get as I won't like to end up with things that would be collecting dust. If I had the chance to test out all the combos too, it would be easy to make up my mind. I ride electric scooters & mtbs & will occasionally vlog on foot, what combo do u advice I go for? they had it all listed out in details when they ha the indigogo campaign a few months back. I'm interested in the Pro MAx version but, still haven't decided which combo.

@@SirKayTravels If you plan on mainly using the autonomous flight patterns which is what the hover drone is known for, then either the Pro or Pro Max if you want 8k with some extra batteries would be good enough. If you plan on doing a lot of manual flights then the beacon is something you'd probably want for more precise controls and maybe that extra bit of help with tracking. I think a lot of people get confused that if the beacon is used that it will just trace the beacon, but that's not entirely true. So just keep that in mind. From hover, "front side follow/avoidance algorithm is unique in its own way that it doesn't work like traditional "obstacle avoidance" systems. It works by trying to reconstruct the trajectory of the user, and follow that trajectory as its flight path. In other words, we rely on the fact that our users would get around obstacles naturally as they move, and "show us the way". Almost all existing obstacle avoidance systems that utilize either stereo vision system, or LiDAR or Radar sensors, would not be able to detect obstacles at the accuracy needed to achieve high speed traversal style flying." All the other stuff really are just nice to haves. The power case is useful for charging on the go while in the case. If you keep all this stuff in mind then I think you'll be happy with it. They are constantly updating the firmware to make it better. There does seem to be initial reports of the first couple batches to have hardware issues and I was one of those. This is a replacement and so far it's been working great!

@@DudeNStuff They sent you a replacement just like that? you lucky bastid. Anyways, can one record audio via the phone mic into the app or it can only be done via the beacon? 'cos I was thinking about connecting my DJI or Rode mic into my phone jack for that crisp audio, you know what i mean?

@SirKayTravels yeah, if you connect the hover to your phone through the app, it has the ability to record audio and it has options to remove the propeller sounds and such which is nice but only while connected through the app so you should be able to use any mic you want connected to the phone. You can record audio through the beacon, but right now it's a separate audio file that you have to get from the hover itself when connected to a computer. There is an update in the road map eventually to automatically sync the two if recording through the beacon. My original hover Pro Max, there were obvious hardware issues because the automated flights weren't working and I worked with support for about a week after it disconnected from the beacon and took off from me. Within a week a firmware update came out that improved the connectivity to the beacon. I believe they determined it was because of the faulty hardware/firmware and they sent me a replacement.

HoverLink doesn't override the visual tracking, it provides another point of data in addition to the visual tracking. In fact, in this situation, if the curve were to be cut differently (ie to copy your exact track) we wouldn't need the Beacon, it's more a matter of updating the visual tracking algorithm. Where you'll see the Beacon useful right now is if you are occluded for a period of time or if the X1 PRO/PROMAX loses you, you will get an alert.

@@67themennis I believe it starts the RTH function when the battery is at about 10%. Keep in mind that it doesn't mean return to the beacon but it actually means return to where it took off from. They're soon updating the firmware so it will have an option to return to the beacon if you want it to which makes more sense given that it is mainly a following drone and you may not end up where you started.

@@67themennis The beacon does show battery life and so does the phone if you were to fly it via the app. It doesn't give a battery percentage on the beacon but it gives a visual representation but I believe a percentage will be more beneficial and probably if future firmware update... Hopefully 😅

The beacon just assists with tracking in a way that it provides another point of data in addition to the visual tracking. Like lets say you are next to another EUC rider and wearing similar clothes, it helps identify who it should continue tracking instead of getting confused like the OG x1 might. I believe the Pro and Pro Max will perform the same with burst speed with or without the beacon. Right now the biggest advantage to having the beacon is the live video feed and the alert it gives if it were to lose tracking. If you understand it's limitations, I think you'll love it!

yeah it definitely needs a windscreen. I did a DIY video testing one. It did fairly well considering the conditions

Currently there isn't a way to change those parameters from the beacon but I wouldn't rule it out from a future firmware update!

@@alphasportstv my understanding after a lot of reading about it in the Facebook group, it sends a video feed back so you can monitor and also helps with tracking if it loses sight of you briefly and such

Yeah unfortunately with this drone, I believe the way the drone does obstacle avoidance from the front, it does some advanced tracking with the camera so it follows your actual path when following from behind. You could put it on side track or tracking from the front and it wouldn't follow your exact path if that makes sense.

Maybe a setting I'm missing or something they could update in the firmware in the future though!

Yup, you're correct. I probably was thinking of the burst speed which is 37 mph.

I believe it does needs both so it can do obstacle avoidance. If you think about it since it doesn't have obstacle avoidance in the front, it has to rely on the camera. I prefer it actually stay in place if it does lose me because if it relies ONLY on the beacon it may choose a shortest path to it and there may be things in between us at that point that it could run into if that makes sense. I can only image it getting better with firmware updates but these are just my observations. They may be incorrect and maybe HOVERAir will chime in haha.. I do plan on running the same test when I've got some time and without the beacon to see how it performs

@@DudeNStuff That actually make sense. Unless somehow the beacon leaves an invisible digital trail path that is follows. Ha ha! High hopes but not very likely. Did you also get the joystick(s) as well? I ordered the Pro Max Ski Combo with a bicycle mount. It didn't even ship yet tho. Waiting til after this chinese holiday to pass or whatever.

@@Reem_Geez yup, I also got the joysticks as well and I've toyed around with it for a little bit but the controls are like backwards... Like what I would expect moving forward would be it makes it move backwards. Maybe my brain is messed up and that's how it's supposed to be but it's weird to me. I did take a look at the three control schemes that it has pre-built in but it didn't help 🤣. Maybe something that we can fully customize later and I can correct this.

I could have sworn that I watched one of the launch videos that stated that the controls can be adjusted like opposite of what the manufacturer set it as during shipping. I sure hope so. Were you able to get it to do a speed burst yet? I was kinda looking to see if it would do that in your vid once you got a lil further away from it but i didn't see that happen. I might have missed this, but did you have it set to far or standard or I think it's now called medium in follow mode?

@@Reem_Geezso the one setting I know is true for each of these videos is that I set it for "flat". So pretty much level to me. As for the distance, it was either set to close or medium. Sorry I can't remember which ones I did for each clip. I do know I did not want to test far or high because it was dark and there were in some locations, branches and such.

The site says you can fit it on a modular helmet and the owner is pretty responsive so if you can't find the instructions to do so, I'm sure their support team can assist!

I think the quality looks fine to me. Just be sure when you export video, that you select a high bitrate. I think a lot of people overlook that which may contribute to their lower quality.

@@DudeNStuff doesn`t matter which brand as same vision technology so result will be identical... .number of false obstacle avoidance on them are shocking, leaves, nuts and other quite small objects are a no go for it straight away. Even birds and cats in the end got so brave that won`t move when robot nearby as they figured out he`ll change direction anyway 🤣🤣

Yup, as long as you don't emulate police lights then it's fine. Imo it helps us be seen at night so we don't get hit by cars. I've passed plenty of police and I've never had any of them give me problems about the lights on the helmet.
