Hey, this has probably already been asked, but does the original Midi to CV converter (the one that you linked to the github of) have polyphony of any kind? Would you separately route the 3 CV outputs to 3 different oscillators? I'm new to this, so sorry if this question is stupid.
@otemrellik20 күн бұрын
I don't think it is setup for polyphony. I'm not 100% sure though because I mostly used that project to figure out the hardware. I've made a couple polyphonic midi to cv modules but I don't have any of them up on github, sorry.

Bam! Bravo Bro! Why didn't you make an actual app out of it to make it accessible to everyone? I remember playing it on mobmuplat but since I left the applescam I didn't manage to run it with android party. I guess you moved on.
@otemrellik2 ай бұрын
I would have had to put in a lot of time to make this into a real app. I really liked working with modmuplat and it was all free. This was also just something I made for myself and wanted to share. I haven't done much in PD for a while but I do miss it a bit.

You have earned my respect by alll means. Hope you are aware that it takes a while for the returns to show, there will be people who don’t believe in you but you already know how that goes, just sidestep and keep going. You already been a huge inspiration and added to the diy community so I think you got what it takes to do whatever you want. Just hope you stay on the “right to repair” and open access for mods and anti planned obsolescence. 🥰

This machine looks absolutely delicious ! Well done ! Can you shed some light on how you made the touch interface? I'm guessing your front-panel PCB contains internal copper traces next to the holes for the LED's and you like those to an IC that detects capacitive touch? How did you manage to make the front panel completely flush (I'm guessing it is since you slide your fingers over it so often)? This stuff would make for a very interesting hardware design tutorial for sure ! Looking forward to learn more. Thanks !
@otemrellik4 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yep, there are traces around all the individual squares that are attached to two mpr121 ICs. You can feel the traces just a bit which gives it a nice texture. It's not completely flush. The led's are mounted on a internal PCB and there is a grid inside to guide the light.
@chronozphere4 ай бұрын
@@otemrellik Amazing. Thanks. So did you leave holes in the PCB silkscreen to make the PCB transparent or are there really physical holes in the PCB itself that the LED diffusers perfectly fit into? I understood that the FR4 material that PCBs are typically made of, is transparent if you don't put the silkscreen over it. 🤔 I haven't seen this on other devices so I am very curious how you achieved this result.
@otemrellik4 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s just the transparent FR4, no holes.

I want to build a groovebox from scratch where should i start?
@otemrellik7 ай бұрын
Depends. If you want to/already are into coding I’d check out the teensy audio library or electrosmith daisy. If not check out pure data/max. I believe daisy can run pure data patches but I haven’t tried it. This old project used pure data on a raspberry pi, which is also an option.

This is pretty awesome. I think the only thing even similar in a small stand-alone format (from what know) is the Rainger Effects Snare Trap pedal but that's way, way more limited. I'd love to see what a few ambient players could do with this.

Also - rather than chaining sample bank can you also record changes so you can jump between them more quickly?
@otemrellik8 ай бұрын
That is definitely something I was experimenting with and might still be possible. In the end I went with simple chaining and doing quick switching between sample banks as more of a performance action. I do still like that idea though and might be able to add it in a future firmware.
@TheOriginSoundtrack8 ай бұрын
Super cool! Definitely will get one at some point. Wish it had trigger outs though to be able to use the sequencer with external eurorack drums. Wonder if you could do an expander for that?
@otemrellik8 ай бұрын
That would totally be doable. It sends out MIDI for the triggers currently, so any midi to gate module configured for the right notes would work.
