Spent tax payer money with no coherent plan based on the surmise that anyone else might not have the interests of Hereford at heart. Now you're asking the public for a plan because you appear to have no belief in your own vague ideas.

I think you're deluded. If events prove me wrong, I'll gladly revise my judgement; but there is nothing in this video which gives me confidence you have the requisite skills. You can't even talk-to-camera. And you too will need to make a profit, because if you don't, tax payers will have to pay: so please don't sneer at hard-working local businesspeople like myself who work themselves from dawn to dusk and beyond, to make a profit.

Cllr Hitchiner clearly thinks that the purchase of the Maylord shopping centre takes preference over the needs of the people of Herefordshire and by stating that he doesn't have the foggiest idea of what to do with the site except having a currently banned entertainment area introduced (no entertainment allowed). This decision is typical of amateurs trying to look professional and falling at the first hurdle. The Green party coalition are a disgrace to local government and as in Brighton where the Green Party turned local government into a laughing stock with idiotic schemes which cost £millions only to be reversed at further cost when the electorate rebelled and kicked them out. VOTERS, THE PEOPLE OF HEREFORDSHIRE NEED TO KICK THESE GREEN PARTY IDIOTS AND THEIR COALITION SUPPORTERS OUT OF OFFICE ASAP. If anybody hears of any hints of corruption/malpractice by the ruling coalition please make the matter public. You deserve better than these clowns who have failure at the expense of the people as their target.

So, you've spent a considerable sum of public money on a failing retail site and you have no plan to do anything with it. This is astonishing. You are a council, not experts in business and you were elected to manage the provision of core services and general welfare of the county. I completely fail to see where it is within your remit to make high risk capital purchases with public funds without any coherent plan. I feel the public deserves more than just this rambling and largely fact free explanation as to where more than £4M of public funds have gone; who were the beneficiaries and where are the guarantees that the council members remained impartial? This feels like a valueless purchase and it should come under detailed and public scrutiny.

I agree with people who say it is a stupid idea, money that this city has not got, next year the council tax will go up again and the council will be pleading poverty again, Shops are moving out, sports direct are going. This is going to be a white elephant, and we the taxpayers will end up paying the price. There is no new shops opening in Hereford, even the Old market can't fill what have closed. I thought when I voted for this new administration I was voting for change, but it seems nothing have changed, the undemocratic cabinet is still there, nothing seems to be changing there and now Herefordshire council is wasting money on a shopping centre that is failing.

Sounds very good. Mind you out-migration isn't just about University and jobs it's about a conservative population. Young people and others would stay and create business if it reflected their own liberal way of life. We're in an amazing location. Why wouldn't they come? Why wouldn't they stay with the mountains and the Wye Valley on our doorstep? Perhaps culture is lacking - you know good licensing for innovative events. But then again we have an ageing population, which you have to keep happy. They don't want crowds or noise. Thing is a thriving culture stimulates retail. Yeah licensing and more needs to be made easier but who wants to upset the apple cart of rural Herefordshire? Not many and so we lose people. Maaan, the complaints I've heard about it being backward over the years leaves you under no illusion as to who dominates. The strange thing is the only major event to have succeeded 'The Big Chill' for example was orchestrated from outsiders and they never really sold the county. We tried years ago for a similar event and there lay only fear. In steps London and it was all good. Mmmm. There is a concern with local people becoming to influential me thinks. I hope this will change in the future - let them grow strong.

Here's why I DON'T think we should have a university in Herefordshire: Part of what makes Hereford so attractive to both tourists and locals, is it's atmosphere. I myself went to university in the South East (Southampton), and once my 3 years were up I couldn't wait to get back. Yes, the jobs down the South East are more plentiful - but it's a miserable place to live. I've seen many Herefordians like myself claim that our county is terrible, but I've never seen someone leave and not want to come back. The trouble is with bringing a university to Hereford, is that it will slowly erode the culture and atmosphere we currently enjoy. And while being a small city has it's downsides, it also has many upsides. The grass might appear greener on the other side, but really it's just a different shade. It's rare to meet someone in Hereford who isn't from Hereford (or Poland, sorry). And that's what we love about it. Also, down South the house prices are appallingly bad. You pay more down South for a smaller, dirtier house/flat, with little chance of a nice view. I'm all for improving Hereford's industries and local amenities, but we must keep Hereford, Hereford. Bigger cities face less disruption from universities, because they're usually already relativity diverse. A small city often feels the burden of a University much more, and cities such as Winchester, Chichester or Durham have had their local atmospheres corroded. That's not to say we shouldn't encourage people from other regions of the UK or abroad to visit or live in our city, but if they do come here, they should want to for what Hereford already is, not to stay for a few years and disappear.
