My 2019 SE has been making that noise since a month ago. 65K miles.

Bought my 2021 highlander with 48k miles , now that Im at 50k the whining sounds has started, Im under warranty but I really had higher expectations with toyota. Also I heard that theres a shortage of these transmissions replacements leading to months of waiting. 😮‍💨

I got the same issue with my Highlander 2019 with 59000 miles. At first, there was a whining sound, but then it became more pronounced and after a while, it turned into a grinding sound. Toyota wants 11000$ to replace the transmission (rebuild)some other quotes were 6-7000$. Lucky for me I got a friend who was a mechanic at a dealership in Russia, he fixed that transmission for just slightly above a grand, parts included. The problem was that the transmission-bearing part eventually failed. There were a lot of metal shavings too.

Our 2019 started doing this about 5k miles ago. Currently 125k on the odometer.

@toyotausa You need to address this! 2018 Highlander with 64K miles with same issue as above. The ZJC Customer Support Program is not associated with my VIN, although its the same symptoms. Was basically told to pound sand by Toyota Customer Experience Center.

What causes the issue ? Torque converter ? Or transmission oil pump ?? My transmission was repaired and it’s making this noise now.

In laws having this on their 2019 XLE.. just 2000kms out of warranty, Toyota saying there will be no exception made and that they are liable. Just pathetic, have never seen these issues on any car that we have owned, aside from the 2022 V6 Platinum that I bought and had valve seals go at 3000km. Insane… what happened to Toyota quality?

Add me to the people who had a bad brake switch. It was as easy as looking for brake lights behind the vehicle and disconnecting the switch and jumping it to prove. We had already replaced the starter and were stumped when it kept failing intermittently like a bad starter does. Thanks for all the comments that set us on the right path.

Operation:Straighten the steering and lock it. and then adjust the toe. Unlock the steering wheel, if the steering wheel is still perfect. Everything is nice. If the steering wheel be tilt, Repeat above operation. That's pretty much how we do it.

You forgot about the spare tire. Or is it not required for this way of doing the position test? *Edit* I tried this on a 2008 Impala LS just now and it also worked but not quite as smoothly. It did work though but I have a bad sensor in one of my tires. Thank you for the video, it helped a lot!!

Hi, I have a 2017 Highlander XLE it has 150000 miles. We just started hearing this whine noise just like the video. We replaced Serpentine belt and flushed transmission fluid. Still have the noise. Looking at Transmissions it looks to run about $5K. About How long do you think the transmission will last with this whine noise? There are no other symptoms at this point. Otherwise this has been a decent car - CV Axles replaced at 90K.
