We love Harvey's songs, his one about the NHS is so spot on. One of the most beautiful voices ever. Ive cried over so many of his songs like Song for Phil Ochs, She saw him smile and Marguerita. Lucky to get to see him in concert a few years ago. Wonderful evening. Thanks

Andrew, thanks for putting this song on KZbin. Iain first heard this song in my car, on the way back from a gig. He had to change the lyrics a bit, some for obvious reasons. Thanks for the photos, too. Talk about waxing nostalgic!

Hi again, Andrew, I just checked the lyric insert from the "Stage by Stage" CD, and the printed lyrics are the original Peter Nelson lyrics, not the lyrics which Iain sings on the CD.

I attended a gig by Harvey Andrews. I think that he insulted Australian beer in one of his interludes, as he does at 1:55 in this song.

What insult? He doesn't comment on the lager quality...just the fact that it's cheap. And cheap isn't bad!
@EdwardAveyard2 ай бұрын
@chrisvetch5221 This was a comment that I made 12 years back, so I had to refresh my memory. I definitely remember, when I saw him at a gig in Halifax, that he said that his family would have migrated to Australia were it not for the poor quality of beer. Listening to this again, he contrasts the old King's Head with the off-licence that sells Australian lager. I think that he's implying that the King's Head was good and the off-licence with Australian lager is bad.

Like 1000's of others I first heard of Harvey when I was a soldier in Germany in the mid 70's. I bought all of his LP's and he's still up there as one of the very best. His lyrics and the feeling in his music makes him the most underrated singer songwriter EVER!! still listen to him and he never lets me down however I'm feeling.

Met him in BMH Hannover in the 70s> Dedicated the song ""Birth of a Brand new day to my Mrs who was some 8 months into he pregnancy.. Great man and Great Singer. Note :- ""The Soldier" was banned by the BFBSS (Bumbling Funbuling Braodcasting Service" and could not be played publicly at that time.
