Listen, as a 60 year old software engineer, a sociologist, and someone who has worked and agitated for a better world for most of my adult life, let me help you see that young technologists such as yourself are not qualified to put forward positions on how ai and related technologies will impact human society. You are abusing your de facto role as communicators about modern tech when making such pronunciations, as here where the message is that Hume-based applications (which could literally be anything!, as the services provided through an API) would essentially be a positive development because there are a lot lonely people. Really? What do you think the most likely applications would be with such empathy (i.e., manipulation) technology in the hands of powerful actors whose interest is first and foremost if not exclusively manipulating human behavior, be it for narrow commercial interests or for political/ideological manipulation. Even at the level of public health, there is no real way that human society can benefit by trying to address human loneliness with talking with machines. Young technologists think such technology is cool, but are not old enough to see the ways in which it is dystopian and destabilizing. Technical expertise does not confer expertise in social domains. As someone with a platform, you have a responsibility to Identify your capacities and do your part.

Hey, thanks for the comment. We appreciate the feedback. When I say tech (e.g., Hume in this example) can solve loneliness, I'm not saying it won't also have potential downsides. I believe this tech can help address an aspect of our loneliness epidemic, which is real and backed by research. Of course, there will be bad actors. It's already happening with AI, which we discuss too. People are being scammed out of thousands/millions of dollars due to AI voice replication. Yes, that's real too. Two things can be true at the same time. My job is to showcase cool tools, not to pontificate about the potential evils that may arise.

The potential negative consequences are of such great magnitude that it's really not okay to just talk about what's cool without also covering the gravity of it. Proponents of AI seem to always think that its misapplication is a matter of peripheral bad actors, and that the ramifications will be like preventing some new categories of crime. However much like social media is now objectively implicated in the crisis of youth mental health in many parts of the world, especially in the United States, it will be the commercialization of AI by the tech giants themselves and other legal profit seekers that most dramatically causes harm and it will happen on a mass scale. The literature about AI is full of information about this threat, a potentially existential one, and not because of robots taking some kind of control. That's just extra. You really should read and watch about those scientists and sociologists who are voicing these kinds of concerns. If you're talking about this stuff you have some responsibility to meet.

We are so easily manipulated nowadays by a simple photoshop or a website that has misinformation that was aimed to sway a political belief or even clickbait type video preying on conspiracy fans that take a youtube video as 100 percent truth. Yeah its gonna get creepy real real soon. Its progressing so dang fast its hard to keep up. Dont get me wrong i'm completely fascinated maybe borderline obsessed with ai at the moment. Due to this I can also see that an app or software that came out last week can be replaced by an upgrade 3 weeks later. Its the fastest moving technology ive ever seen. Anyway, im with you.... I dont think theres any turning back at this point. The government doesnt seem equipped with the guidance-boundries of this new issue and the unwillingness of any side to come to terms with any decision is always present. A short time will tell buddy.

Thank you for sharing your insight! I have been playing around with Suno AI for a few days now, and I am so amazed. I created a few R&B and Southern Blues songs, and they sound pretty good, too. I think I will switch over to the paid plan ($8.00/month) because I want to sharpen my skills in AI-generated music, etc... I'm just so amazed at how good the music sounds! :)
