Very cute! Thank you Catherine for all you're efforts to ease compassion fatigue in animal care workers. I followed the link to this video in David Grimm's Science article mentioned in today's Nature eAlert. Lately, I've been considering occupations involving research animals, to which I'm no stranger, but I've had misgivings based on my own postgraduate experiences many years ago. If I follow through with it, I'll certainly follow your advice & double down on my empathy for the critters under my care.

In fact, the main problem is not food shortage but it is a shortage of equal distribution. The bottom line is greed, the rich men buy power and are above the law. Without justice or compassion, it is a shortage of everything.

The commodification of food is a capitalistic scheme that fails the very abject poor we're trying to serve. Look at alternatives such as Buddhist and Sikh Temples where food is a collective endeavour and a reason to gather the community under one roof and share in the responsibilities and benefits of enjoying food!!! This is the definition of community - and it, the food, MUST NOT be commodified, but given freely out of AGAPE Love of the Benevolent Creator of all the food and resources that we are called to be stewards of! We do not own anything forever, except that we borrow the resources to cultivate the land from the Creator, so that we may, in turn, do our part to help create abundance and healthy nourishment for all, and share/care - most especially with our most vulnerable peoples - the young, the old, the widowed, the poor, and those of us with special health challenges!

1) By reflecting away 30% of ISR the albedo, which would not exist w/o the atmosphere/GHGs, makes the earth cooler than it would be without that atmosphere like that reflective panel set behind the windshield. Remove the atmosphere/GHGs and the earth would become much like the Moon, a barren rock with a 0.1 albedo, 20% more kJ/h, hot^3 on the lit side, cold^3 on the dark. Nikolov, Kramm (U of AK) and UCLA Diviner mission all tacitly agree. 2) the GHG up/down welling, “trapping”/”back” radiating/delaying/intercepting, 100 % efficient, perpetual warming loop requires "extra" energy which according to RGHE theory comes from 3) the terrestrial surface radiating that "extra" upwelling energy as a LWIR , 1.0 emissivity, ideal black body which 4) cannot happen because of the non-radiative, kinetic energy, heat transfer processes of the contiguous atmospheric molecules and as demonstrated by experiment, the gold standard of classical science: principia-scientific.org/debunking-the-greenhouse-gas-theory-with-a-boiling-water-pot/ 1 or 2 or 3 + 4 = 0 Greenhouse Effect + 0 Greenhouse gas warming + 0 man caused climate change/global warming. Thank you very much for making this available, and for your encouragement to take learning from the session and carry it forward no matter where and who you are. Despite my context being very different (Scotland), I feel I can absolutely take from your discussion of decolonisation, access to land, understanding whose land we are really on, and food sovereignty, and use these ideas and your notion of complicity in a beneficial way, so thank you once again.

At 1:37, the need to refrigerate peanut butter is discussed, using Kirkland brand natural creamy as the example. That circular red and white label at the right - just above the "High fat content" arrow - says (in part) "stir well and refrigerate after opening," so I do. Watching this, I'm now concluding that the refrigeration is just to keep the oils and solids from re-separating rather than for a food safety purpose. C'est vrai? The fact that the brands with hydrogenated oils don't recommend refrigeration strengthens my faith.
@ubclfs4 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely correct! Refrigeration will slow down the separation of the oil, and likewise, reduce lipid oxidation, therefore extending the shelf-life of the peanut butter. Although if you consume your peanut butter rather quickly then this usually isn’t an issue. Thanks for watching!
