Wow, thats really easy to change the odometer on the cluster. Is it still traceable though? Doesn't the car keep a log somewhere else?

This is good for swapping out ECUs that go bad.....the older instrument clusters have a EPROM 8 chip on them that stores both mileage and VIN number.

FYI - It is illegal to change the odometer down in Australia. Even if you change the whole drive train for a brand new one in a 150k km old car - you cannot change the odometer, legally.

Hi. Do you know if that change is only for speedometer or ECU also? I mean can you find if you have change the km from vw diagnostic? Like Vcds or odis ?

I’m not 100% sure but I believe it’s both but I can’t confirm. On vcds faults shows the Kms the fault came up but if you reset the fault and comes up again it then shows the updated Kms

@@dashtyATG I am a ex mechanic mate, just take to your local garage and ask if they will do a check of the real odometer MOST garages have the Autel diag machines and there high tech and will show the cars official reading… I have a mk2 focus st bought it as seen with 75k on clock however when I took it into my work I did some diag checks turned out it is reading at 85k so not a massive differnce and didn’t bother me but just as a example to you most places will have the diag tools to find out 👍🏼👍🏼
