Sorry for the late reply (it's been ages since I checked my messages - even longer since I looked at this video!). Yes, no bother at all.

Really fantastic find! The year I was born! What a shame the narrator has a horrible rp accent. I'd have loved a Scottish accent but in those days a Scottish accent was seen as inferior!

The miners rows - probably much the same as when my Grannie left Dykehead in the 30s - i kinda like the music it fits the eerieness you get from looking back on the past

My Grandfather Danniel Cunningham worked down the pits in Shotts - so did my Grannie actually before she had kids - my Grannies brother Tam Dillett got killed down the pit in a pit accident - they moved to Boness to the pit there but i think there are still Dillets in Shotts i could be wrong tho - a few generations later i still feel a connection to Shotts strange tho it may seem

My grannie came from Dykehead but moved in the 1930s - her maiden name was Dillett - maybe there are some Dillets still there

My Grannie came from Shotts - her maiden name was Dillet - i think there may be some Dillets still there - she lived in Dykehead . I remember my mum used to lay flowers on her grannies grave at Shotts Kirk and also on one for someone called Sonny Dillet who i think was a cousin

Hello! Myself and Chloe Allison are doing a documentary about the history of Shotts and are showcasing it at the Henderson Theatre on March 22nd. Chloe has written a song about the "old days" and we were wondering if we could use some of the footage on your channel to accompany the song?
@wullnull7 жыл бұрын
Sorry - bit late in replying! I don't own the footage here, and to be honest I don't know who does. I got it off a copy of a copy of an old VHS tape that was doing the rounds in Shotts some time in the 1990s. The footage itself is so old though that I doubt there would be anyone who'd raise a complaint...

TheRobv435 - Unfortunately I don't have the video clip on my PC anymore (I deleted it after I uploaded it here). However, you should be able to find a KZbin downloader and 'acquire' a copy that way.

Wonderful pictures, but had to turn the sound off after a minute because the 'music' is utterly dreadful and spoils the whole thing!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I will use it in my presentations if you do not mind (full credits to you). I research smouldering combustion and have been studying Scottish bings for some time now. This bing has fuel to smoulder for several years more. Is the local council aware of the problem?

Hiya canthill3 (good name!) - thanks for all your comments! I know what you mean about life in the old days - I'd a grandad who worked down the mines in Shotts and some of the stories he could tell you... well I'm just grateful I'll never have to put in a days work like that. Unfortunately I've uploaded all the old videos I have, but I'm hoping somebody out there has more and I've maybe inspired them to get those uploaded to KZbin!

@jscotty232 Unfortunately the video was probably a copy of a copy of a copy before I got my hands on it, so it's pretty bad quality and looks older than it likely is. If you look at 4:34 you can see the Pat Boone album 'Tenderly' which came out in 1959. I don't remember the waterwheel down Rosehall Rd - was that down the Tank Brae near the bridge?
