Was this a newer VIper with the 105mm S-EDF motor/fan? I bought one of the very old ones (V2?) with the ChangSun fan, and it was terrible. But I switched it to a JP-Hobby motor/fan and it flies great now. It looked to me like the S-EDF motor/fan was similar in performance to the JP Hobby motor/fan. And later I bought other HSD planes with the S-EDF motor/fan and they seemed much better than the ChangSun.

I get that but this being a new field and super rough I’d rather stand behind the jet and I’m not worried about how I look but thanks for the advice.

Nice maiden, i just got mine, its running a 4253 700kv 160amps, was your set up the same ? What motor would do best wothout modification? What battery C rating you ran ?
@thehanger3436 Жыл бұрын
Mine is the version 4 but I’d have to look to see what motor is in it. I was just at Joe Nall and talked to some other guys that had HSD jets and they said the viper is known to struggle with the stock setup and I’m gonna be putting the hacker 110 edf setup in mine I’m just doing a new paint job on it first then I’ll do the remaiden on it.

@gibbs677bg Жыл бұрын
I don't think foam and fuel turbines are a good Idea either, you can see where the nozzle outlets are scorching the foam, sorry but this Is a fire ball just waiting to happen, on that nice dry field as well, I hope you carry fire extinguishers and can run fast? 😉🙃😅
@thehanger3436 Жыл бұрын
Hi I get why you would think that but were you see the foam heated up is not from regular running and flying that was actually from when fuel got in the tail pipe which was my fault because when I was fueling one time I didn’t have my fuel valve closed all the way so I had a hot start otherwise it would be fine. I have zero heat problems in this jet or my avanti. Also yes we always carry fire extinguishers as they are required to fly turbines and any other rc plane. As long as you have a proper tail pipe you will have no problems with melting the foam.

Nice job getting it down with only minor damage to that retract. Could have been MUCH worse!
@thehanger3436 Жыл бұрын
Thanks and yes definitely could have been way worse and the retract was fine just wasn’t glued in very well from the start from the looks but now it’s all better. Just have to find a new field that allows turbines because they no longer allow them at this field.
@jonfloyd Жыл бұрын
I've been an observer at the Apollo 11 RC field San Fernando Valley and have seen the guys rock the turbines front to back on high throttle before they fly to make sure there are no fuel line bubbles or interruptions. Not sure if that was the problem for you but nice job! I'm a fan of RC planes. Good luck
@thehanger3436 Жыл бұрын
Hi yes I believe I had gotten a air bubble in the line but I believe it was from a cheap uat I had been using which was changed out now so I should be good.
@robward7662 Жыл бұрын
The foamies lose speed real fast, if you had just put on flap at turbine shutdown I suspect it would have come in pretty easy, I have made the same mistake as you putting the gear down I have a A4 setup and the freewing gear is ok but doesn’t take abuse , so in these cases I leave the gear up. When I fly at a field as rough as that looks I use gear for takeoff and belly land . And all freewing that I have flown seem to have slightly short nose wheels and therefore no positive angle of attack on the ground hence your 4x longer than needed takeoff roll, I manage at least 3-5mm (1/8+) shim on the nose retract and it makes huge difference for us that always fly of grass,
@thehanger3436 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I haven’t really ever had issues with the freewing landing gear if I land normal and even on takeoffs I usually get up faster but this being the first time I had flown this jet I didn’t wanna is flaps but I think if I had used them it would have lifted off earlier. I’ll give what you said and try and see how I like it though. Thanks for the info.
@robward7662 Жыл бұрын
@@thehanger3436 I like to use a bit of flap to on takeoff just to get that bit of extra lift in the wing. But extending nose wheel does the most , I have a CARF j10 210turbine kinda similar p/w ratio as our foamies and it sits like 10 degrees nose up and takes off in 10 feet , my A4 now about same.

You did a great job not attempting to rotate without enough ground speed. A sign of experience and patients to prevent an even worse outcome. HSD is supposed to specialize in jets, so it's disappointing they have a product at this level...especially after this number of revisions. 😥 This makes my Habu 70mm SS look like a 6S speed demon. 🤣
@thehanger3436 Жыл бұрын
Thanks yeah pretty disappointing especially being such a expensive jet. I do know the 120mm jets fly great and have plenty of power. Once I upgrade the edf it should have more then enough power. My 6s jets are definitely way faster. The PJ50 is a great example of it and that jet is basically the same length just not as bulky.

How many volts are you running on that beast . ? Has to be the 2 6s packs. To much weight or your ESC isn’t calibrated to hit full throttle.

Also yes I have a uat but I’m gonna be changing it out I think it probably got to many bubbles in it because it’s the one that came with the kit and it’s kinda cheap.
