purchased this saw for Christmas and after only a few hours of use, the paint on the deck delaminated. I contacted HF customer support and they had no reports of any issues. I don’t know if this was just a one off thing with a few units, but will be returning for a replacement. Other than this, I’m really happy with this machine. Also very happy with HF customer support, no run around issues.

I am very new to scrolling, right now I have a very cheap scroll saw and it makes scrolling very difficult, would the bauer be a good saw for a beginner ?
@MakingitwithScottКүн бұрын
It is surprising good for the price. Honestly they could be charging $150 more and I’d still be recommending it. I did make a full review video but to save you time, get it. Lol

I like to use a laser to draw patterns on thicker wood than the laser can't cut and I cut them on the scroll saw or I make stencils with the laser.

I do as well, a laser and scroll saw complement each other. There is too much, “lasers are cheating.” Comments out there.

I wish I saw this when you published it, I just bought the Dewalt as my first scroll saw. I think this would have been a better bang for the buck for me at this point in my scrolling journey.

The 788 is a nice saw. They certainly don’t give them away anymore. The main issue that I’ve had with the 788 and Delta 40-694 saws is the power switch wearing out. I highly recommend getting a foot switch for them.

Steve, nice job on the video. I just got one and it appears the chucks can’t be swapped out for pegas chucks. Am I wrong?
@MakingitwithScott9 күн бұрын
yes you can swap them out for pègas chucks. Just make sure you get the chucked with the tensioner. There is a short video with them installed on the Bauer.

So I thought of a different bracket for lever to drop the head. $7. Harbor freight in the tool box area, there's a magnetic hook to hang cords off of. It has a square ish hook and gives you plenty of room to disengage the pin to release the head.

I didn’t even know Bauer made this saw. I’ve been thinking about upgrading from my Delta. The Pegas isn’t in the budget. Wondering if this might be a nice alternative to the Pegas.

They are sold as a kit. They make a couple different styles. Google Scroll Saw Chuck Heads by Pegas - For Excalibur type saws. You would need the one with the white lever.

Scott, great video. Is a foot pedal necessary in your opinion? Im looking at some more inexpensive saws and they dont come with a pedal.
@MakingitwithScott20 күн бұрын
The foot pedal is something you can purchase separate, many are under $20. They are not a necessity but does save wear and tear on the saws switch and allow you to keep both hands on the workpiece.

I have been using a Dewalt scroll saw for past 3 years (30+ hours a week). I had been looking for a backup as the Dewalt is wearing and making a lot of noise. Business is such that I do not want to take the Dewalt apart until I have a decent back up, or upgrade to a Seyco or Pegus. Based on your review I might have to consider this. Since you
@MakingitwithScottАй бұрын
I have been cutting 20+ hours a week for over a decade, I was getting between 1-3 years on the dewalt and delta saws before they would start dying. It wasn’t a big deal replacing them until the price started going up. I really do like the Bauers saw but I would get the two-year extended warranty. That way have nothing to worry about and if anything goes wrong, you just go and get a different one easy Peezy lemon squeezy.
@ronehall29 күн бұрын
@@MakingitwithScott Thank you for responding Scott. It does sound like a good idea to get the warranty as I will surely work that scroll saw a lot. I am definitely getting my money's worth from my Dewalt!

Was wondering what the "arms" and blade grip (chuck) are made of. In the store it is difficult to tell if they are aluminum or plastic, just that dull gray color. I saw in your video that the tension lever is plastic but didn't know about the other items.

The beginning was normal speed, it took about 15 minutes to cut the entire piece. I do have some live videos of cutting things in real time.

I just noticed these at HF. I had a Dewalt many years ago, which I believe was the original "double parallel link arm" design. I loved that saw, but to me it had just one fatal flaw....The insane front-to-back movement of the blade. It was about 1/8" at the table and increased from there. That made fine fretwork difficult for me. How much is the front-to-back blade movement on this saw, measured at the table?
@MakingitwithScottАй бұрын
Dewalt saw are based on Excalibur saws from Somerville Designs in Canada. Yes the Dewalt and delta saws are pretty aggressive. The Bauer oscillates maybe between a 1/32-1/16” if you’d like control over the oscillation the newer pegas, king , seyco saws among others have the ability to adjust it.
