I saw you posted on Pistonheads about recharging the AC using bbq gas. Could you please do a video on that when the time comes? I’ve recently got my Tuscan AC back up and running. For me the trinary valve needed some attention with the electrical connections and the heater ECU needed two dinky little transistors changing to get the AC clutch to engage. Those surface mount components are a real eyesight test! Looking forward to your next video. 👍

If you think a bike is running on one cylinder less than it should, just start it up and remove the spark plug cap from the cylinder you think is not working. The difference will be immediate.

The engine looks great now! A few questions for you: Where there any gaskets between the throttle bodies and the head or is it just RTV used? There are gaskets you can buy from Powers for the Speed 6 but they aren’t essential. I was surprised a local firm couldn’t fix the starter for you. Years ago I had a local company in Adelaide rewind my starter of an old merc from the 1950s! Finally, is there a way to test your new clutch before you reinstall the engine and gearbox? Just to check it disengages correctly.
@mrniceguy351
@mrniceguy351 3 ай бұрын
Thanks! There is a plastic (bakelite?) spacer between the heads and the intake. This is recessed to take an O ring on each side. Yeah I don't think they went all out to fix the starter. But I have a new one on the way that was a reasonable price. I guess you could make up some extra long hydraulic lines to test the clutch outside the car. Rather than do that I'll just test it once it's sitting in the car. I don't see it being a problem.

Good luck! I had a 93, I can tell you that the V-boost was amazing! I'd personally recommend finding the stock airbox and carb set up. they can definitely be jetted up if necessary. it would be nice if you could find the fake air scoops too. they weren't functional but they really made the look complete. if you get it running and really accelerate hard, the red oil light will come on. don't be alarmed its not a pressure sensor, but a level sensor. most V-maxers will tell you "if you ain't getting the red light, you ain't riding it right!" 2 things that that bike still wont do very well is turn or stop, so make sure you leave yourself plenty of road to slow down if you get on it hard.

You should check the stock carbs to see if a Dynojet Stage 7 kit was installed as that hose going to the oil filler cap comes with the kit to allow for release of crankcase pressure. 1993 was the year 43mm forks and 4 piston calipers were upgraded---Your 2003 has all the available upgrades--R/R, Segment, Spin-on oil filter, helmet lock and redesigned block for the oil filter. If stage 7 was installed you should now have about 130hp at the back wheel instead of 112 stock---the 39mm keihins will be close to the same with Stage 7 kit.
@sjuozhunki
@sjuozhunki 4 ай бұрын
I would also look for either the airbox or 4 K&N filters---that would tell you if Stage 7 carb kit is installed--if you could post a video of the stock carbs facing up I can tell you if the kit was installed. The keihins are 39mm from UFO as is the ufo headers and your stock carbs are Mikuni 35mm.

the crankcase breather setup might be functional.. possibly this thing has been modified and is running high crankcase pressure and needs the catch can and drain.. it might puke oil out if you return it to stock.. figure there has to be a reason it's been modified.. it will be interesting to see how she runs.. i'd scope the bores and get a look at the piston domes.. check the compression.. valvetrain.. curious why it was at auction.. keep us informed.. possible the engine's been built.. hope it's not hurt..

Keihin carbs have been around forever.. that's an expensive carb upgrade.. i've never had that setup.. i understand they are somewhat finicky to get tuned across the rpm range.. the exhaust will play a big part of how she acts when tuned properly... looking forward to seeing how it all works.. you got a smoking good deal on it provided the internals are all in good shape.. if i recall the carb kit runs close $2k USD retail.. ~~$1k used..

Yeah it will be interesting to see how they run. If you throw the throttle open in a hurry it stalls. (Spoiler: it's now running!) I need to get some oil in the forks before I take it out though.

those are definitely not the stock carbs, the stockers go straight up into the airbox. the velocity stacks are necessary for the carbs to function properly as well, they have rubber ones with the stock configuration. the original V-boost config dumps from 2 carbs after 6k rpms.

Love this content and mixing it up with the buggy stuff and general engineering thoughts. I grew up in Adelaide before emigrating back to the UK for a job so I can appreciate the can do attitude you have and finding solutions to problems over there. In Europe it’s too easy to throw parts at a problem rather than thinking things through. Especially over a beer or three. My first cars were from the 1950s. Morris minor and a couple of Mercs and I had to be creative with parts to hand in Adelaide in the early 90s. Loved working on those cars and thinking through the problems with my Dad. Learnt a heck of a lot from him. These days I have a TVR Tuscan in the UK and still love the challenge it throws at me regularly. Love your work and keep it coming! Cheers.

Did the exact same thing 2 years ago on a 4.2. I then moved overseas with work and its still boxed and labelled. It's brilliant you're posting this and will help many more Cerb owners. These aren't complex engines. The water pump impellers are a pain and part searching is too, you always forget something. Especially piston rings not cheap, the bearings from the timing cover (though commonly available), the arp head bolts are somehow unique and not commonly available. As you say mans are LR as are big ends, youll need double main set due to tang (but check the cerb engine rebuild manuals). The power steering key does break overtime, there's a technique to swap it out in 4 hours 👌 but not easy. Ukkid on pistonheads knows more. The rtv around the liners give way and fall off, unsure if you need to pull the liners to reset height but plenty of advice over on Pistonheads. But great job and good luck, a rebuild video would be invaluable to the TVR community.
