I restored a 65 when I was 15 back in the early 90 my first truck. Pull your push rods first thing. I bent a few in 302 motors before from too many rpms. So guess they can bend from stuck valve. I also put a brake booster on mine off a early 70s ford from the junkyard it went on no problem.

The pcv is a big vacuum leak and unfiltered air is sucked directly into the engine only course mesh screen

I agree with your friends do cam and timing chain the fe engines like wearing out timing chains
