Is there some trick to NOT burning through your drill bits or damaging your drill when you make the holes in metal? I haven't done very much with metal, but even when I work on normal lumber its surprising that you can have trouble with drill bits :S. I'd hope to not burn through any if it can be avoided.

What is the cost of time and materials? I think it would be less if you bought a Bambu P1S, X1C, or Creality K1 and had a printer designed for an enclosure. Enclosures don't make sense to me unless you are printing ABS, ASA, and other materials that require a hotter chamber. At that point, you also need to think about filtering out the VOC or extracting them outside.

The cost of time was too much, of course. So it goes with DIY projects. This was more about scratching an itch and trying the idea.

Dude! Whatever you do, please know…. That, friend, is an upgrade! Our ancient flush mount kitchen fan was replaced by some putz with a bath fan- yes, a NuTine fan and without any insulation- just a straight view up through the attic, and you can see the sunlight hitting the roof of the cap. Bugs fall in, attic dust, so we had to cover it while we try to figure out a remedy. It’s loud and doesn’t do anything whatsoever but cause me to cry. Our landlord Doesn’t care, but you are so kind to make this thoughtful video and your wife must be so happy. Way better than anything we have seen available. I’m sayjng( that is a pretty good prototype for a manufacturing gold mine! Well done! Thank you oh- the way you explained it was very helpful, especially the ductwork. Really clear and much appreciated. Happy holidays from California!

I enjoyed watching your project and it looks great. Watched a number of videos on the subject and here is what I learned: apparently if you use a fan >400 cfm you need make up air per code as of 2018 and you need less than 3 Pa difference in pressure between inside and out. Reducers have huge negative impact on flow rate. You also want to to fixed (not flexible pipes) and avoid sharp bends like the t-you used on one of the inlets.

Congrats! I just hatched out 5 of 5 buff/easter eggers. We had 11, but one of my hens went broody so I gave her own eggs back to her on day 13 and she finished them off with a 6 of 6 hatch; Buff/Sapphire Gem. All the eggs hatched on day 19. I did a 100% dry hatch in the Nurtureright. Love that incubator. Humidity was about ~30 give or take for the entire incubation process. We started with 12 eggs, all fertile, but one quit before day 6. I will always 100% dry hatch for now on. The humidity jumps to 50s and reaches 70s as soon as a chick starts to zip. No intervention needed. There is also way less of a chance of shrink wrapping, though I have never has to break lock down.
@DFSqu
@DFSqu Жыл бұрын
I have never heard of dry hatching but I just looked it up and it's interesting. Maybe I'll try that next time. I think this most recent hatch was poor because the eggs were too cold before I collected them or they were just not fertilized. I didn't look that close. I'm very tempted to hatch another set but I already have so many chickens.

Don, Rather than cutting off the bent end of the tool, what if you only cut a short piece off it and you mounted a regular carbide cutter so it was angled down. Wouldn't it cut like a negative rake cutter?

Maybe. I think the angle would also interfere with the tool rest. Might be worth a try.

Don’t take it hard. We always have a learning curve. Glass is not good for incubating unless you have all the right environment. Use ice chest styrofoam and install a glass window on the lid. That is what I used on my first to hatches, then I upgraded to a fancier electric incubator. A lot of people hatch ducks and chickens successfully, 1st put the duck eggs and one week later the chickens. Check on the humidity of the region you live. I’m in Houston so humidity is very high. I do dry hatch because out of 10 eggs only 4 where hatching and the rest drowned. Now I’m hatching 6 out of 10. Hopefully some day I’ll do better. Good luck! Don’t feel bad. Try again and learn!
@tieroller
@tieroller 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry you had such bad luck. We have the same incubator. Did ducks and chicks with great sucess. We had two duck eggs rot and were afraid it would ruin the batch. Realized the rotator stopped working because the tray stripped at the post. So hand turning did the trick. Now have 14 duck eggs ready to hatch starting in two days. Wish me luck!
