Johnny Cochran had an extremely likable personality...Darden is more of a brooder, and not the type you'd really want to have a beer with. People underestimate how beneficial it is in almost anything you do to be likable and pleasant. I believe the ability to charm took Johnny a loooong way in this trial because some of the evidence could have garnered a conviction.

I often wonder what Cochran would think of the Depp/Heard trial. Just wondering 🤔 Believe it or not, I think Cochran would've been the perfect lawyer for Johnny Depp, even though Camille Vasquez herself did a spectacular job. He would've torn Heard to shreds like Camille did. Begrudgingly, after what Cochran did, I'd go to a lawyer like him if I were innocent and there was evidence.

I used to think that Darden gave a weak performance in the trial and seemed to have lukewarm feelings or no dog in the fight at all and seemingly the late Vince Bugliosi made the same interpretations of Darden; Bugliosi saw Darden as sheepish and indifferent; failing to incite any emotion in the jury with his compromising style and seeming sympathy towards Simpson. I'm no longer sure if I believe that. I respect him but I also see him as a token black lawyer who was brought there to appease the black jury some of whom appeared to be burly and uneducated and unfit to serve in the jury but they were put there regardless and since intellectually unambitious people think in simple terms a black prosecutor could have helped sway the jury. I'm not saying that they (some of them) were dumb because they were black; they just did not bother to get bright black people to serve in the jury. This may sound harsh but you have to admit that confessing to wanting revenge for Rodney King or foolishness like that is just that...foolishness. So perhaps Darden did not suck as such; it's just that he tried to play a negotiator where he knew he could not go toe to toe with the defense in "charisma" but as a more content oriented low energy type lawyer he took on a softer style which could have appealed to some jurors. I can only assume that that was Mr. Darden's intention.

Cochran got the shine and Darden got shade from the black community. The irony is that Darden represented truth, intelligence, and dignity, and the zealous pursuit of justice. Meanwhile Cochran belittled the intelligence and integrity of the black community and even proved that all you have to do is swap out photos of OJ playing golf with white people with some African art and the hearts and minds of black folks can be swayed so easily.

But by getting OJ off, he indirectly led to more suffering for blacks. We all know it was OJ's fault for killing Nicole and Ron in the first place, but Cochran made it worse by making that trial into a race trial. All his other efforts in the civil rights movement, he was a hero. But his role in the OJ trial undid it all.

You can say many things about Johnnie but the point remains that Johnnie ran circles around the prosecution. He was about the only trial lawyer of the day who could’ve spun the story he did and gotten the jury to believe it enough to vote NG. Many Simpson jurors said at the time and now that the question of “did he do it?” was much more difficult to answer than “did the prosecution prove he did?” That speaks to the job Johnnie did.

@@christophergargaro959 The media coverage made it so the AA on the jury would never convict OJ because they could NOT go home if they did.. The 2 whites on the jury are to blame. It should have been a hung jury, followed by a retrial.. Re-trial would have been his death sentence..
