Just put it in neutral and pull upwards. Quite tight but it's only clipped in.

Is there a part # to order to just replace the plastic chrome button? Mine broke & I still have the flat spring that was inside. YOUR video was the only one I found that helped.

Hi, I don't think the chrome is available separately. If you can find a second hand lever you could swap it over?

Hello boss, im in a predicament. I have a 2009 R56 mini and was recently completely locked out of it. Thought it was the key fob so I had the batteries checked and they were fine, tried the emergency jey it refused to open the lock. Thought maybe the batter was completely flat and needed replacement, without access to the inside it was very difficult to open the bonnet but after some tries the alarm went off and the batter was fine. Im now beginning to think the remote receiver located inside the rear view mirror might have had some eater leakage and is completely ruined. But how do i change it if im unable to get in? Should o break one of the side mirrors?

If the emergency key is wrong or the key barrell is faulty there's no easy way in. If you can get in (some breakdown services will do it for you), as soon as you put the key in the slot it should stop the alarm sounding.

@@ptengineering2851 I don't recall door lock was ever changed, and I don't think I've ever used emergency key so the mechanism must be rusty. I tried with a coat hanger to open the door from the inside, I was able to grab the door handle but the door still would not open. I think my only option is to break this side window and replace the remote receiver.

Spring Size: The OD of upper shaft is 8.5mm. A 'normal' spring 8mm OD and 30mm in length should work.

COP….ended up going with #123 Spring Compression at 1-1/4” length 3/8”OD spring. I had to slide it into position from the face end. It wouldn’t slide in the bottom opening. Also placed some grease on the shaft to reduce friction. It feels like new. I to did not find any old spring parts….did it just denigrate? Hmmmm.

Hey man i was wondering if you can guide me a little. My key does not unlock my car but it does lock, the central locking does not lock or unlock any of the doors. When I open the car manually my driver door and hatch unlock but not the passengers side door I have to unlock that one manually from the inside.

It needs proper diagnosis but I would guess you have two faults. The passengers door latch is probably faulty, that's why you have to unlock it manually. When you manually unlocking the drivers door you are overriding the latch so that one could have failed too. The key unlock button has probably failed.

It takes TWO CLICKS... to unlock both doors and Hatch. Otherwise...one click only (or single turn of key in door) only unlocks driver door and hatch!

Sunroofs are really more trouble than they’re worth! Just bought an old MkV GTi and whilst the A/C seems to be working well, it’s continually misting up - which is an indication of moisture…..leading me into the rabbit hole of leaks and sunroof drains etc! Again, thanks for all your efforts. PR

Check all the doors are closed. Key in press the start button (without pressing the clutch or brake) If your car has a screen in the centre Speedo you will have less functions in the set/info screen as some functions are set via the centre joy stick.

If the door lock knob operates correctly and the outside handle doesn't work it sounds like an issue with the ext handle cable.

@@ptengineering2851 I've had it opening when I alter the settings normally but then it goes back to not opening..don't no if it's not saving the settings or I'm doing something wrong..it opens from the inside ok

Go back in the menu to the same settings. Press and hold on the option to unlock all doors. If you have 2 keys you have to set it on both keys.

It sounds like the passenger door latch mechanism is faulty.

Yes the actuator is part of the latch

Same problem for me- 2006 Jetta TDI. Passenger side hose on A Pillar shrunk and no longer reached the rubber bulkhead fitting. I inserted my drain hose into a piece of tubing and ran that tubing thru the bulkhead - removed the rubber bulkhead fitting completely. I had several inches of water inside the car after a night of rain, so I'll know by tomorrow's rain whether this was my only leak! Really disappointed in VW that this problem seems to span from models before the Mark V up to newer models! There's never time to do it right, but there's always time to do billable repair after the warranty expires 🙄

Just confirming that the leak was indeed that hose that apparently shrunk lengthwise. I'd also sealed the little water dam around the air intake, cleaned drains to wheel wells and hosed a few pounds of mud from wheel wells inside plastic mud guards- moss was growing in seams behind wheels. Only problem is I can't get the plastic cover back onto A Pillar, so my curtain airbag is partly exposed. At least I won't have weeds sprouting in the carpet until one of the other 3 drains decides to shrink!

Yes timing chain on Petrol models. Providing it's had plenty of oil changes the chains are robust. Diesel has a Peugeot/Ford engine which is more trouble and has a timing belt.

It will more than likely be the driver's door latch inside the door which is faulty.

I bought a box of springs years ago so no specific part. The spring needs to be a similar size to the rod in the gear knob. Approx 20mm long and quite east to compress.
