Great video. Could you make a video on how a piper could play more relaxed on the pipes. I see way too many pipers that can play a tune on the practice chanter, but once they try to play the same tune on the pipes, they fail.

Good stuff. Ive heard that the lower the tuning pin on the bass drone the better the tone also?

It is possible that the lower location of the bottom section on the pin does produce a more harmonic tone, but im sure glad that it helped me be less concerned about making clean attacks at the competition line with the band 😊

i find my biggest problem is sometimes have if a particular note or notes on the chanter that are flat or sharp trying too get them back in tune with rest of the chanter so if you could make a video on how to do this it would be great thanks

It's definitely a hard choice between Dunbar and McCallum now. I may just have to go with Dunbar. It's nice they sell them just by the stocks, and you can add whatever they have available in bags, reeds, etc. when I was learning all that I could find was pipes made in Pakistan. I'd just look at the stuff knowing parts would most likely fall off as they're played.

Mike, what is it about the Broadly chanter that you find is an advantage over the G1 Platinum chanter? I ask that only if you feel free to discuss that over the internet.

@byoh100 The Broadley has a similar amount of volume projection as the G1 Elite without the oversized oblong shaped holes. Plus many top bands are playing them.

@ Thanks for the info. We are playing the G1 Pt with standard holes and Platinum reeds. That combination sounds very good, but doesn’t appear to have the volume of your Broadly. It is hard to tell the comparison through a video, but yours does appear to have excellent volume and harmonics. Now back to the game.👍

@paulmacdonald4122 To me It's a step up in Vibrance from the McCallum. Needed less tape as well when I played G1 and Chesney Copper. SFU ,SHOTTS and North Stratton played them last year.

Dunbar makes excellent pipes, I own a set of ABW and a Poly set, both are excellent, easy to tune with excellent tone and volume.

@user-zv9um9pb6w Indoors, I have found that they are just as steady and stay in tune as my blackwood set. But I haven't put in a lot of long term time with them in extreme heat or colder temperatures to see if that is an issue.

@@TORONTO-WEDDING-PIPER I'm looking to purchase my first pipes and I have lots of suggestions. I am trying to see how realistic some of the pros/cons are. At the moment I don't compete or practice in a band. I am leaning towards the Macallum Poly but other than my teacher's preference I have no reason to choose Macallum over Dunbar. When I look at the cost I am concerned with getting Blackwood.

@user-zv9um9pb6w I have had several sets of pipes over the last 40 yrs. I would not hesitate to purchase another set of Dunbars for myself. Mccallum does a lot of marketing and advertising at piping events. They do make good products. Depending on where you are located Dunbar Pipes can end up being less expensive than other pipes currently Because the canadian dollar is very low at the moment compared to other currencies. They are very nice people to deal with.
