Unbelievable!! How bad the game was..., for both! Thanks for sharing this experience Nicholas. All of the reasons you give as to why you lost this game, which are valid/correct/right, are external/disjoint/disconnected to the elements/situation on the chess board, which is the core of where we should start off our thinking, assessment, decision making, regardless of opponent's rating or strength. As you mentioned, that mindset "I'm winning in this position" is bad already BUT, let me add, it is even worse when one has that mindset without any clear or tiny justification from the position on the board, and it can only bring disaster on the chess board.

@@highgroundchess lichess. You can store the games in Chessbase, Chessable, or lichess studies. I recommend this because they're aren't too many master games that deal with the O'Kelly Sicilian

The opening that he played is called the delayed wing gambit. A variation of when they play 2. b4 in the Sicilian. Gotham chess plays it a lot

@@highgroundchess it might be home brewed with chess engine nowadays. Equality is achieved whether white plays the wing gambit or the delayed wing gambit. But if one has never seen it they're out of book which from a psychological standpoint gives white the edge

The DWG is something I played pre Gotham but he really popularized it. It was a good game! The game after this one propelled me past 2,000, but I’ll be taking a break for a while. Gg!

King can’t go to F2 the kings can’t touch 😭 the correct answer was queen to E2, checkmate. The queen defends the knights and blocks the bottom squares and the knights defend the squares to the left and right
