There used to be a kid in my school who wore an old style metal and leather brace that went through the heel of his right boot. It and his boot was beat up and Im thinking it lasted him a long time but probably weighed a lot He wore several different shoes on his left foot.

Nope it doesn't work that way, people with footdrop can't just step into a shoe are toes curl
@theneurostudio_4 ай бұрын
Actually everybody with footdrop is different and it sounds like you are basing your comment off your unique experience. You are correct that a lot of people with foot drop also have excessive toe flexion (when the toes curl). The good news is there are things you can do to improve that and we offer a lot of different workouts to help. I personally have MS and have foot drop since 2002 and some days are better than others. I am simply sharing an AFO that really works for me and allows me to walk further distances as I am determined to not let my foot drop get worse. Have a great day!

Hi! Meghann has worked with thousands of people with MS and Mariska our other co-founder has MS. We prefer to personalize every exercises based off our client’s response. These exercises are samples of concepts that need to be personalized. You can try these in a wheel chair with some modifications placing a yoga block under your foot. Also make sure your hips are active and eyes focused on one spot. One idea is pressing your leg into your arm or arm rest while trying to move your foot. If you are looking for a personalized program you can email us at [email protected] to set you out with one of our top teachers!

Question can you tell me if someone with drop foot can overdo exercising drop foot exercises? Thanks Great video!❤️🙏🏻
@theneurostudio_5 ай бұрын
Yes you can overdue it so take your time and make sure you address your whole body not just the foot. Sadly more traditional methods focus too much on just lifting the foot and that can cause a little of discomfort and frustration.
@user-iw3mr2lv6f5 ай бұрын
@@theneurostudio_ Thank you for a very fast reply. How often should I exercise for drop foot. I also use a E.M.S. I have it 2 times a day for 1 hour each time. Is that ok? Really appreciate your input! 🙏🏻❤️👍🇺🇸
@theneurostudio_5 ай бұрын
@@user-iw3mr2lv6f Hey. It really depends on what you are doing. At The Neuro Studio we feel the foot should be addressed in all exercises and you should work the foot in isolation but you also need to address what the rest of the body is doing when exercising the foot, especially the hip. To make a more personalized recommendation we would have to see you move, so you can email [email protected] and we could set you up with an evaluation from one of our top level 3 teachers.

yes change the height of the heel and make sure you support it with a wedge or a back. I would also recommend working on more hip control and communication with the upper body! Keep in mind, it is best to have someone assess how your entire body is responding to offer the best approach.

I actually took a leap and bought some of these. My foot seems to not drag (early days as I just got them yesterday, I have been wearing them today but with my walker too) and feel like I am actually dressed up. I just assumed those days were long gone, the days of any heel footwear. I will continue to wear barefoot shoes to strengthen my feet with an assistive afo, but if I am going out I have an option that works and feels good. I am really surprised it worked for me but your description of your own foot ankle is similar to my own experience. tkx

Wearing a brace gives me a false sense of security. When I take the brace off I frequently snag my toe(s) and fall. I would rather not wear it, and have my brain learn my new foot position.
@theneurostudio_11 ай бұрын
Sam - this video is just helping people find one that works for them as many are not able to walk without the increases sensory input the AFO offers. But as we describe in the video they often inhibit other movements which is why they should be worn in conjunction with a good movement practice.

When I don't have shoes on, I do what I call the model high step. I pick my foot up with every step. It is automatic since I've done it for so long.
@theneurostudio_10 ай бұрын
@@mareellen63 that is very common as the brain will pick an alternative strategy to help you move forward. You can also try sensory socks, like the Naboso brand proprioceptive socks or insoles to give your feet feedback without wearing a shoe in addition to a good exercise program.
@mareellen6310 ай бұрын
The Naboso socks are too expensive. I've been taking Nervive for at least a year. I can feel my feet again.
@steveballzack14094 ай бұрын
You can't learn to not drag your foot if you don't have the ability to lift your foot. Your brain learning your new foot position isn't going to help you not to snag your toes, that's going to happen anyway I can guarantee that. Wearing a brace doesn't give a false sense of security, it gives you actual security when wearing the brace. Of course when you take it off you're not going to have that security anymore.

Get someone who has a foot drop to demonstrate this. If one can do what you ask, he/she does not have a foot drop. It is so frustrating to see healthy people demonstrating exercises for handicapped people.

We agree and considering our co-founder has had MS for over 20 years and has foot drop, so she knows first hand how exercises can be difficult. However, this video is to help people understand where and what we are trying to achieve with each movement. This is important, as we are an education company to help movement pros offer better solutions for people living with neurological conditions. We have many videos on instagram and facebook with our client’s but many of them do not want to be featured on social media and KZbin, which we respect!
