Great video & yes an exhaust is a must have upgrade on the 997 Turbo. I’ve put it off & put it off & now actually my new 200 cells cats are in the mail to me for the next project. Congrats on the find & price. I just replaced my engine mounts first b4 the install as my tailpipes were sagging 7/16” the engine mounts were shot and engine would move on neutral revs/blips. I also just ordered transmission mounts too as it’s recommended to do both at the same time. Tighten this up like new. Mine is 18 years old ‘07 997 Turbo with 38K miles. I noticed in your video pre and post the tailpipes came up at least 1/4” some change them every 5 years east & inexpensive DIY. Did u use copper anti seize on the bolts when putting back together? I’m also going to clean the O2 sensors too. Cheers

That's awesome! You will love the sound upgrade. Yeah definitely doing preventative maintenance is priority. I believe the tips are slightly higher now just do the the way I aligned the x-pipe and tips. I cleaned up the studs and but did not use anti seize on them.
@tomburns8902 күн бұрын
@ ya you brought the tips up with the install. The hanging motor stretches the engine mounts even when it’s parked let alone the beating take when driving. I think every 5 years replacing is over kill but considering your car is about 14 years old & 60K miles it might be a good idea to change out those engine mounts & tranny mounts as it’s a relatively cheap maintenance & you can do the engine ones yourself & maybe the tranny mounts but I’m gonna have my Indy to the tranny ones.

@ I have considered doing new engine mounts but unfortunately for me they are not cheap. Turbo S has the dynamic engine mounts which run about $3000 for a pair.

It would be nice to have a cutout under those rear wheel wood stands you built that you could slip the floor jack under and jack up the stand and rear tire at the same time and then slip the fixed jack under the rear jack point. Maybe design something using steel instead of wood for the extra strength required due to the cutout.

That is one sweet looking Turbo S! Nice compact feel of the 997 body with warp speed capabilities with the twin turbo engine 🚀 Is it correct to assume that you sold the C4S due to relative lack of power and torque? That’s the one thing that makes me hesitant on getting a 997 or 991.1 Carrera - anemic power down low and having to always rev the engine like mad to get in the powerband.
@Stuttgart_Spotlight24 күн бұрын
Thank you! Well said! No not necessarily the reason I sold it, 997.2 Turbo was always my dream car so the C4S was just a stepping stone to get there. The C4S had plenty of power for the street and you could drive it harder on the road. It does lack low end torque of course but that's the nature of those engines. I will make a video comparing the two.

@@Stuttgart_Spotlight I guess I will have to test drive a 997.2 S and see if the power is acceptable to me. My daily driver is a Mk7.5 Golf R with stage 1, 375bhp, and boost kicking in at 2500rpm. This is super relatable. Really appreciate your perspective! I am looking at a 996 C4S that is in excellent condition tomorrow. Might end up being my first Porsche. Owner is motivated to sell for family/practical reasons and it’s a very well maintained example. Fairly certain I can get a good deal, or walk away if he doesn’t budge. It’d be a dream come true if it worked out but trying not to get too attached 😅However, one of my holdups is that I don’t have a garage. I’m sure a lot of Porsche purists would say parking a Porsche outside is sacrilegious, but if the sale works out I plan to cover the car whenever weather is inclement, and generally drive the car often so it isn’t sitting. Plan to buy a house in the next year or two with a garage, but curious generally what your perspective is on this-is there a way to own and drive a Porsche consistently and care for it well even if you don’t have a garage?
@Stuttgart_Spotlight3 ай бұрын
@@nathanbrown8487 that’s awesome! It really depends on what you want to do. I personally would never want to store any of my cars outside, especially a Porsche. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my extensive car searches it’s that there will always be another car! If all factors in your life align and it makes sense to purchase then that’s up to you. I know I tried to convince myself for a long time that I was ready for a Porsche and wanted to buy one, but in hindsight I definitely was not quite there yet. Whatever you decide, I hope it all works out! Cheers

997 Turbo Not cheap to maintain. I had the dealer change my plugs and coils, water pump which included of course new coolant, the thermostat, fuel filter, a few cheap coolant rubber bushing o-rings, brake flush and it was $11K. Just replaced front CV boots inner and outer both sides for another $1K. I just changed the oil and filter myself for $110, I think the dealer charges $550. And just smogged & paid DMV for another $1K.

A few big $ items were missed... 1) Property tax. Here in NC it's about $750/yr on a $70k car so that's $1,500. 2) Fuel cost. 3) Opportunity cost. Put that same $70k in a S&P 500 index fund and you'd get a tax deferred return of about 10%/yr, so $7k first year and $7.7k the second year for a total of $14,700 in lost income because that money was tied up in a car instead of being invested. Even if you compare it to the Camry, you'd still have $40k more tied up in the 911 which comes to about $8,400 in lost income.
@Stuttgart_Spotlight4 ай бұрын
1) It does not work like that in MN so that does not apply. 2) Fuel cost schmuel cost. 3) Every single dollar spent has an opportunity cost vs investment and that is an assumed compromise. You could also put 70k in the S&P500 and lose 10%. The intent is clearly to demonstrate direct cost of ownership for a used porsche.
@Dando776914 ай бұрын
@@Stuttgart_Spotlight 1) Lucky you to live in a state with no property tax on vehicles. Wish I did. 2) "Fuel cost schmuel cost." - Love it. Wish my wife agreed. :) 3) Saying that you could also lose 10% if invested doesn't negate the subject of opportunity cost. You could also make more than 10%. For this reason, I gave the example of the average return of the S&P 500 over its lifespan since 1957 which is 10.26%. Investing in a broad market index fund is pretty safe and consistent in the long run. Ignoring this as a cost of ownership is a big mistake. Another way of thinking of this is that most people will finance a car instead of paying cash. Should they ignore the interest on their car loan as a cost of ownership? It certainly costs more to finance a $70k 911 than a $30k Camry.
@Stuttgart_Spotlight4 ай бұрын
@@Dando77691 Not denying opportunity cost is a factor, but it is not unique to this car. Buying ANY car or any item presents opportunity cost thus it is not included. Fun fact, during my 2 year ownership of the car the S&P went from 4319 to 4455 or a total of 3.1%.
