Much respect to Rebekah Gilmore, inspirational choir school director, for delivering this with a fantastic group from Choir Camp. The future of choral music depends on engaging young people and showing them how much fun singing in a choir can be. For those of us who have been choristers many years ago, we know these can be the best years of our lives, where we form lifelong skills and friendships. Delightful 'O how amiable are thy dwellings'. Gorgeous 'How can I keep from singing?. Nice to hear 'Savior, again to thy dear Name we raise'. Not heard it for a long while. Well done to all. You are amazing.

Loved the sermon. Very real and engaging. This morning the Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell said a few words before the end of Sunday liturgy at York Minster: 'My faith sometimes feels quite small, and sometimes I struggle, so let’s love one another, support each and reach out to each other in love' . Seems so relevant when we perhaps face something new, something challenging, something that changes our lives and sometimes that change can make us question our path.

Enjoyable prelude opener beautifully demonstrating that unique Flentrop sound. Can't say I've heard a zimbelstern in Christ Has Made The Sure Foundation very often but loved it. Don't hear too many of them in England. One quite close by me is at Norwich Cathedral which has a 'cymbelstern' stop. After some years in poor repair the organ has just returned to life after a once-in-a-generation US $2m rebuild by Harrison & Harrison and sounds magnificent. Worth a visit if in the area. Good sound from the guest singers. Two nicely delivered anthem. Until Love Is Spoken, with special words in these times of challenge. Delightful Ave verum corpus. Stay safe

When will the Episcopal Church wake up? Where is your congregation? And what is the point? Looks like no one is interested in this stuff anymore.

Robert, thank you for watching. This was a special Friday liturgy offered by the participants in a summer choir training course, and was not, strictly speaking, an event for our congregation. Please view any of the usual Sunday evening services with the cathedral's own choir for a better sense of what evensong at Saint Mark's Seattle is like. The fact that this liturgy features a choir loft full of children and adults from across the western U.S. who have spent their resources and time in intensive study of liturgical music of the Anglican tradition would suggest that there are some who are still interested in "this stuff."

Ah, the 543, one of Bach's greatest. Yes, it is played wonderfully. And the "Mighty Flentrop" is something to hear. But I prefer to hear it on a smaller organ. Of course, if I was sitting in the audience, up close, well that would be a different matter. I am happy that they are still having concerts. congratulations!

Thank you for your kind words, William. As it happens, the 2024 rendition of the annual All-Bach concert just occurred last weekend (May 3, 2024), this time presented by organist Kimberley Marshall. However, since the cathedral building re-opened for in-person events, we now reserve the concert video for paying audience members.

Bravo Michael. I have fond memories of playing this amazing instrument periodically back in the 80s and marvelling at the capacity of this organ to handle the French Romantic and later repertoire so authentically. I have been gone (in Portland) for many years and miss the Mighty Flentrop dearly.

@@saintmarksseattle thank you. I will bear that in mind. It would be wonderful to see the grand old lady of St Marks. I see the reeds have gotten “frenchier” (noting the finale of the Romane). Instrument way ahead of its time or original intent. I’ll have to bone up on my organ playing. It’s been a while.

Organist, choir and director superb on this. The quality, texture and unanimity of the singers is great to hear. It's the kind of thing you would play to a new group of singers and say 'that's what you need to achieve, that's the standard'. Howell's 'Like as the hart' just amazing. Gave me chills. Beautiful.

Thank you so much, Chris! As you can perhaps tell, a combination of illness and school vacations substantially reduced the choir's numbers for this service, so it's great that you thought the choir's sound did not suffer too much. Plainchant, while it looks simple on the page, requires a lot of discipline and concentration to sing well, and the skills it develops are foundational to all choral singing.

'Catholic Record' September 1 1923 "Sunday is our MARK of authority....The church is above the bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact." ☝️ Blasphemy! Protestants who claim to keep Sunday holy are wondering after the beast and your claim of Sola scriptura is made in vain.

Mr. Urban, thank you for your feelings. We have sympathy for your irritation, and we may have more fully endorsed your comment in 2019 and before. But having lived through 2020 and 2021, I think many would prefer chatter during the organ prelude to the silence of an empty cathedral. Please note that there are several organ recitals uploaded to our KZbin channel. Thank you again for watching.

1 Corinthians 15 kJV ✝️🩸 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 3 kJV 🩸 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

@@saintmarksseattleThank you, that will be wonderful! I discovered this video not long after covid lockdowns started here in Australia. Amidst the uncertainty of everyday living, and as an ‘essential worker’ out in the community to carry out a rather difficult role, I returned to this video time after time. There’s so much to enjoy; the technical account, the demonstrations, and the gentle humour sprinkled throughout. It’s been a wonderful antidote to the negativity of 2020-21 and remains so today. I feel that your faith community must have a really positive and warm vibe, I certainly feel that spirit through this and your other videos. Cheers!
