Hi, any thoughts on the rear drive unit breathing ?
@MistaWeeGee
@MistaWeeGee 7 ай бұрын
On the older bikes there are 2 approcaches and it depends on the model. Guzzi eventually produced vented capss, I think from the Sport onwards, but not 100% If you've just got the non vented cap then try to not overfill and one more thing you can try is to "burp" it. Take it out for a could fast ride and when the bevel box is hot, open the fill cap to atmosphere for few seconds to release any residual preessure build up, then screw it back on. Only need to do it once after a change

How kind of you to say so. That video was taken quite a few years back trying to solve blow-by problems on the Sport 1100 & I put it up to help a guy on the V11 forum If you want to see some more idiotic attemps by me to solve my Guzzi woes I'm more than happy to oblige, pretty sure I've got some more 😉

yes ,I watched them ALL at the time and remember this one. I have a Breva 1100 ‘06, myself. Back in the early ‘70’s I had a ‘66 Velo Thruxton . The breather on these bikes ran along the swing arm to vent. I remember Velo had done tests and found it needed something like a 32 1/4” x 5/16” breather , the length being critical to vent correctly but not suck dirt into the engine there being no valving. How many guzzi’s you got left?

@@arcboutantGot 3 Magnis, they're all Guzzi running gear, based on LM1000, Sport 1100i & Daytona RS. That problem was due to blow by, it kept blowing seals. The culprit was both cylinders out of spec, both in roundness and diameter. Dammed thing left the factory that way I reckon, sorted now though. Getting too dammed old though, no idea hwo long I'll be able to ride them

on the lemans lv there is a check valve in the breather and you end up with a vacuum in the crankcase.
@MistaWeeGee
@MistaWeeGee 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply it's very much appreciated. I found the problem later after more experimentation. Turned out to be blow by, both cylinders out of spec, one by some margin, it most likely left the factory that way. I stripped it then rebuilt it (mainly for casing cleaing) never thinking the cylinder bores would be outta spec, less than 15k on the engine. Stripped it again and got the bores measured and the cylinders relined, same pistons but new rings, so far so good. Gained around 30psi on compression testing. The 1100s don't have that checkvalve, Guzzi omitted it on the Spineys with the frame coalescer. I think they were concerned about oil foaming in the sump due to the return line levels fluctuating as the valve opened and closed.

Hi Matthias Yeah it was a bit of a quick & dirty video just to show it. I spent months trying to do it as well all these years ago until I read that you didn't aim for the probe but just aimed to get the basket into the centre of the HUD. After that the game took over automatically. For me EF 2000 was a real game changer, the first flight sim that actually mimiced weather and conditons. I ocassionally wonder what these guys could have been producing now if they had stayed making flight simms. It was the first that I'm aware of that actually had A2A refuelling, it's all a bit different from DCS which is my "go to" flight sim now

That was a surprise, I made the video actually to help a specific member and it was a bit "quick & dirty" not very polished but just left it up in case it might help somebody else Quick couple of questions Wayne, you're not running Win 7 by any chance? If you are there's a problem with the Protocols and Handshakes, I have a write up that somebody else found and can pass that on. That was a problem I had at one time but I've now moved to Win 10 Next thing is have you looked at Hollywood's videos on typical methods to reset Vaicom if it's not working correctly. His videos are here kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqfVpKGXo52ig5Y&t= kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpTLfYKHrbCZjrs&t= Try his suggested fixes if Win7 isn't the problem There is also a long thread on the DCS forum regarding Vaicom problems it can be found here forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=198297 I'll try to help if I can but I'm no expert on all the ins and outs of it

Is there a setting in DCS that needs to be on?
@MistaWeeGee
@MistaWeeGee 4 жыл бұрын
@@Wvallison No Wayne there are no settings that need to be turned on, the only exception is disabling the comms keys in the DCS settings page, but that in itself won't stop VAICOM working it just might bring up menus when you don't expect them . Is it not working at all or working but you just can't get the aircraft identification on the PTT page? Have you gone through Hollywood's fiirst video and set everything in Voice Attack as stated on the video? When you push a PTT key do you get a "radio burst" sound and when you issue a command check the Voice Attack window to see if Voice Attack is recognizing the command. I could make up a video, but Hollywood pretty much covers what's required in his. If you're still struggling and getting frustrated with it I'll make a short video on what you should be seeing if you think that would help

There has been no outcome as yet, I'm afraid to say. I've replaced both mains and repeated to no effect. The oil cooler was looped out and tried this gave a pressure rise on an initial test, of around 6 psi, but I could not repeat it due to the drill spinning on the shaft. The next thought was big ends, but I'm going to reassemble with a new cooler and lines, run it up and see what happens. As of now I'm in the process of starting to put the front end together. I'll certainly post up anything I find and also on the WildGoose forum. Thanks for your interest, sometimes I feel like I'm on my own battling gravity

@@MistaWeeGee Hi, I am new to Guzzi's and don't intend to teach you to do the business with eggs.I understand there is a course initial filter in these sumps, prior to the screw-in fine filter, then the P.R.V. , weak spring dirty damaged seating,I have seen oil pumps where the impeller and shaft aren't matched and the shaft slips inside the impeller not allowing the proper spin speed,choked or worn impeller allowing a record action inside volute chamber, finally , I once changed the oil and filter on my K series BMW, on starting it was a bag of nails, after checking external items I drained the oil, took out the filter and , even though it was purchased specifically for that bike the filter had a valve inside that was either named or fitted the wrong way, mind it did NOT pass any oil then.another way to check the pup is disconnect a main feed pipe (if possible) and measure (if known) the flow rate. sorry , best I can do and am sure you will have thought of such too. please keep the vids (of the bikes) coming :))

@@arcboutant No your advice and input is greatly appreciated and thanks for it First the Hi Cam engine has identical pipework to the 1100 Sport engine and I've got one these bikes too (also with some anomalies but hopefully now well on the way to being fixed). This pipework contains the oil filter, oil pressure control valve and stat for the oil cooler. The 1100 runs up on a cold engine to around 60-70 psi on a cold engine at just above idle. The pipework was swapped from the 1100 and placed in the Hi Cam and the test repeated, with the same result. So that eliminated the pressure control valve the filter and any associated leakages and the stat. The problem first manifested itself on a different oil pump to the one used for the tests, so the pump was ruled out. The reason for the initial pump change was because the Hi Cam has a notoriously bad design of pump, which is not connected with low pressure but catastrohic premature failure. So pump ruled out, the pump also runs off a steel gear driven from the crankshaft the shaft is keyed and tapered, and it's on very tight, I hate removing them. The pump suction and discharge are straight onto the crankcase wall and the feed internal to the crankcase, although something could possibly be rigged where the pump discharges to the internal pipework assembly. However both pumps (one brand new and a different design) were giving similar results. It's got me foxed for sure. However I thought that replacing the pipework assembly would eliminate the oil cooler too as the stat is meant to hold it shut until around 70C. When running a test with the cooler removed (for access) I found that is not the case, the dammed thing covered me in lube. So I ran a test with the oil cooler looped out as I stated above. I may swap the pressure control valve with a new one as I'm only able to test it to 40 psi with a bicycle pump (no shop air, I'm no mechanic) and to be sure of it I'd need to test it to 70. However I doubt it as the double check with the 1100 pipework did not reveal anything. The oil cooler and lines will get replaced with new items as the cooler is suspect and the lines connect through 4 banjos which a really good way to increase the pressure drop, I plan to replace these with full flow fittings. If you have any other ideas I'd welcome them, there is no such thing as a bad idea IMHO. Once again thannks for the interest.
