Hi. Why you use ball bearings, not taper roller bearings? Taper roller bearings, as I think better choice for milling head: easier to adjust preload, stronger and cheaper, than high quality ball bearings. For press fit bearings I often use hot gun is better for bearings and for spindle bearings places
@SteelCraft992 ай бұрын

the setup in the vise would have needed to be tramed extremely well otherwise it would have machined a concave surface, the same effect scaled down to the diameter of an end mill given the relative precision on the rest of the machine is negligible
@SteelCraft992 ай бұрын
@@josephwaldner7752Exactly! with using small diameter tool with small steps (the smaller the better) you can achieve quite good and flat surface without tramming head with very high precision. There are three areas where I loose some ridigity. 1. Spindle bearing preloading system. In this video you can see that I'm cutting thread on spindle shaft. Now bearings are preloaded with nuts. 2. Surface between column and turret - I have no idea why it's that bad, when I made it both surfaces were nice and flat. When I was assembling machine I realised that one of them is warped - this will be also improved in next video. 3. Z Axis guide surface on knee. You can live with that by locking Axis , it will be improved later by extra scraping. Thanks!
@Lyhnteld3 ай бұрын
@@SteelCraft99 thanks for you taking your time to reply! Yeah, i realize you was working on the spindle shaft. Maybe double axial preloaded bearing (good ones) on nose would help, dont remember how you built it. Talking about warpage... Maybe you cut somewhere and had some tension relief, or made it welding on a relatively far place.( Reinforcements?) Gloves also fool us thinking all apear to fix well when cool but pieces are still at 60°c and when final refit comes... Surprise!!!! And yeah, scraping all those ways is the thing. On construction hardware stores you can find carbide scrapers to apparently clean concrete from tiles. Its a cheap source if you cant get the specific ones ( experience talking).
@SteelCraft993 ай бұрын
New bearings are still angular contact ball bearings but this time I used different configuration. Previously first bearing was deep groove ball bearing, then angular contact bearing 7206 in the front of spindle and 7205 on the back. Now its two 7206 in tandem on front and 7205 on back - they create "O" configuration: << >. P5 grade.
@Lyhnteld3 ай бұрын
That sounded good. (now thinking out loud, tell me if our logic is the same) First configuration was logical, you tried to fight radial forces first, but deep groove geometry probably is not working well under preload, you are pulling balls against a wall on an angle wich is kinda paralell to radial forces so youre having wobble on the spindle until balls are pressed into the depth of the groove, angular contact or conical dont allow the pressure angle to change so you kill the woble from start point. Am i right?
