Casio user suffering from using texas calcs. I don't know why they put two buttons one for negative sign and the other one for subtracting, but anyway I have to get used to it because I like the memory, cutting and selecting answers, it is way much better than the casio calcs. Thank u very much for explaining

Did we have to use the n+1/2 method for this one ?
@KellySpoon

Honestly, it would guarantee that you've landed on the middle value, so it's a smart move! But most (non-evil) instructors will have enough wiggle room that simply looking for 50%*n or 25%*n will land you in the correct interval for the median or Q1.

Just letting you know, I'm in Stats class in college and I have to refresh myself on all of this stuff. You have no idea how appreciative I am for you to explain it this way. Seeing you square out each section really opened me up to a different type of learning. Man I appreciate you so much, thank you!

How did you add the 3x and subtract the 7? It looks like you pressed something on the little wheel thing at the top?
@KellySpoon
@KellySpoon 2 жыл бұрын
Ah, I just pressed the little wheel thing to use the right arrow. Once I did the square, my cursor was still in the exponent. But pressing 'right' I moved out of the exponent and down into where I wanted to do +3x. Otherwise, I just used the +/- operations on the right in silver to add the 3x and subtract the 7

so, usually in vernacular we say the "nth" item. Is it traditional in Statistics to say "kth" because we use "n" for a the population number?

Hi Kelly. I'm about to take an exam where I'm only allowed to use a TI-36X Pro (and not a graphical calculator). I was just watching random videos for extra advise, and I am so happy that you talked about using tables in combination with the expr-eval. You just saved me several minutes on my exam Kelly, thank you!.

@KellySpoon
@KellySpoon 3 жыл бұрын
You can find derivatives at a point in the 36X Pro with the button right below 2nd: "d/dx [ ]". I haven't tried to put them into the table function to see if it will give me the derivative at multiple points.

What do you input for the ‘not all’ question?
@KellySpoon

Looks like you understood this, Tyrin! But for anyone who stumbles onto this comment later - the way I figure out "not all" questions is to consider what "all" is and then realize not all is everything else!

When writing the final answer for median do we choose lower class of the class width where the median lies?
@KellySpoon
@KellySpoon 3 жыл бұрын
This is why finding median on a histogram is a bit silly. We can't write the actual value. Most professors would want you to write that the median falls in the interval [6, 8) as we have no idea where in that interval the median lies.

Why do you multiply by two on the "What is the probability that one of the tires will be damaged?"
@KellySpoon
@KellySpoon 3 жыл бұрын
Ah! Because there are two ways that can happen: damaged first, then not damaged OR not damaged first, then damaged - the probabilities will always be the same for either situation, so we can either add them together (since option 1 OR option 2 would result in 1 damaged tire and OR problems are addition problems in probability)... or we can shortcut that, only calculate one of them and multiply by 2 for the two ways the event can happen.

In the last example of the historgram, I calculated both values but did not add them together since the question states "or" which threw me off. Would you take points off on the test?
@KellySpoon
@KellySpoon 3 жыл бұрын
Mathematically, "or" is additive! I would give you most of the points for a problem like that on an exam - probably 3 out of 4 possible. Though with the online exam, you'd only have one blank, so that might push you towards combining the number in either category. :)

Exactly. You will end your whisker at that first data value inside the fence and mark that min or max (and any other values outside the fences) as outliers using open circles or asterisks.
