That' is very interesting to me regarding Barbara Y's comment that Prince wanted to stay a rebel than a pop star. I believe I can relate, to my own life. Not to say that I'm a star, but that I have an inner rebel in me. uhh, errr, heh.

Prince had 2 Pittsburgh dates for the PR tour then cancelled. I spoke with Mgmt and received a call from C. Rice. Apparently the Civic Arena couldn't handle the stage setup. The message P sent was, pick a city and I'll be on will call guest list. Me, our fan club VP, Jr VP and a friend all drive thru a blizzard to Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland, Dec. 5, 1984. Looking forward to when you cover that week soon!

Thinking about the dance steps and moves, remember prince had people from the dance studio come over to teach dance steps, one of his girlfriends around this time was at the dance theater, maybe Kathy? I vision prince called her over to teach steps as he looked from a distance, then he fine turned it or threw it out. It was a great idea that he gave charity money to the theaters early on, he probably had them at his beckon call. And we see in his videos and live performances he put them to work, A win-win for all. I think he wanted to see "show me what you got " is where most dance came from. Except CL is right about the first 2 tours, dance was always there, then he figured out he doesn't have to come up with them anymore, pay someone else to. The brushing teeth and washing hands are cute.

Sorry, I missed y'all today. I agree with C. Leigh, the cultural standpoint is important, especially for those who didn't experience Purple Rain in real time. New purple fam need this! Please, please keep doing this!

38:25 re: your question about Tony or Damon rehearsing with Prince - I wonder if @mdean might have discussed this in one of his interviews with them? I feel like one of them might have talked about how Prince was in the dance rehearsals, but it's been a while since I listened to those episodes.
@saa9099Ай бұрын
I think the song " Purple Rain " was about Sheila E., A girl in 83' prince wanted as a lover, but couldn't have her until a couple of years later. Maybe lyrics "Only one time " was a flurdren slip, or that's what he meant. Props to her for holding out for as long as she did. That's probably why he respected her so much, and she's a great drummer too. Although it was unnecessary for him to say "for a girl " over and over again. It was a man's world she worked in.

One of my older brothers was at the Bogart's show in Cincinnati. That venue still exists and I saw The Revolution there in 2017. Where Bogart's is located is within walking distance from the University of Cincinnati and Hughes High School. Perhaps that's part of the reason the show was held there. Lots of students were in attendance, including my brother who went to UC at the time. Also, Cincinnati is an oft forgotten funk locale--James Brown has a history there with King Records; Bootsy Collins is from there; Zapp and members of the Ohio Players have histories there (Hamilton, Ohio); the Isley Brothers and Midnight Star (both from Lincoln Heights). Jill Jones is originally from Lebanon, Ohio which is closer to Hamilton. Larry Nager, the writer of the Cincinnati Post review was still at that paper 12 years later when I interned there! It was cool to see his name. Unfortunately the Post no longer exists. The 1982 show that was mentioned was the site of the infamous food fight.

Memory is a monster! Add Lupus fog and old age, what a mix. Last week I scrambled two memories. I think because I had received a 4th generation Black album, '87 and a LoveSexy concert tape at the same time in late '87. I was commenting on purple fam being surprised about covers. It was in reference to That Doggy in the Window on the LoveSexy tour. Can't explain my brain scramble on the Black album.☮️

Yes, prince sampled "Organism" as D. said over a decade. It was a diss to Denise, as she was changing her life to humiliate her. I remember hearing it in his concert, and thinking, you're got a new girl, why is this here? Petty prince, getting even with vanity. Hope it made him feel good.
@saa9099Ай бұрын
I think prince did those cover songs on Emancipation because he thought he could make them sound better, and I agree with him. "Crimson and clover " when he played it on Ellen, sounded better than the original. I loved that song growing up. "One of us " I never heard before, but love his version. "I can't make you love me " superb. He's showing his feelings, and sometimes it sounds like his heart is crying through the vocals.
@saa9099Ай бұрын
I LOVE " The ladder " so much it's my email. Seems like prince had a love/hate relationship with his dad. Prince married a woman 18 years younger, as his dad married 17 years younger, Maddie. I'm sure prince had some feelings about that. Yes, prince playing the piano, rehearsal, "The ladder " is a great short piece. I'd like to hear the unreleased piano piece. He gave his dad credit for that song.

Never had a problem with Prince addressing racism. Prince’s lotusflow3r addresses that issue and it was number 2 on the charts.

Great catching up with the Come symposium stuff now on KZbin. Absolutely love this whole album … Come, Space, Pheromone and Dark are my favourites but I always listen to all Prince albums in full and never skip tracks. May I just send out healing vibes, positivity and love to Jeremiah. I’m also going through cancer treatment for the second time in 3 years. My loving thoughts are with you 💜
