I tried Bacto Balance primarily for the bacteria to feed the corals. My PO4 and NO3 bottomed out and I stopped using it. Disappointing because it is suppose to supply PO4 and NO3 to stop you bottoming out as I understand it. I started with 20% of the recommended dose and built up to the full dose over a period of a couple of weeks.
@pelagicswimmer10 күн бұрын
Could you not just reduce the dosage, I used it before I went down the bio pellet route worked well just got too expensive so I changed to the pellets for the bulk of the reduction. I'm tempted to just do vinegar or vodka to make it cheaper, then we get into long chain and short chain polymer discussions... Never simple.
@jules254510 күн бұрын
@@pelagicswimmer I was going to start dosing again after I had pushed up N and P and start with a fraction of the recommended dose and keep it below the recommended value. The funny thing is I had N and P readings but they just vanished overnight. There are lots of interesting conversations on R2R by RHF about long/short chain polymers. If I remember correctly you have a Phd, is it related to Oceanography or Marine biology?

Yeah pricing get mental when you have a fully stocked tank, even a 350-525 costs can get crazy once grown out , in my old 3 ft I was dosing 245ml each part a day & il sure mogs was dosing 300-350ml a day aqua forest before he switched to Kalk / coral essentials . Also with the zelements you’ve more than likely got to buy the non ph stuff too as I tried just the ph & through the rani off balance then the ph high so consumption more but couldn’t dose more without ph increasing & alk not then Jose suggest just doing the non ph alk so was expected to buy an alk & ph+ all, madness , it went in the bin the 3 litres left & switch back….

@dazsboxofwater Nothing other than what I talk about in the dosing video, should have you covered for the main elements
@Random.Thoughts21Ай бұрын
Im not fan of Lanthanum Chloride, especially with this heavy fish load. Why not install a algae turf scrubber and refigium with cheato. That will take care of most of nitrates and phoshates. Also your calcium reactor looks massive why not crank that machine up and just avoid other 2 part portion. Also with kalk dosing it should keep your phoshates to minimim already as it binds of phoshates. Keep the vidoes company. I personally prefer running tank with best value for money options. Kalk and calcium reactors are very cost effective I also think you can get eve more concentrated trace elements for 10% of the cost. Lol. Sorry i always try to cut corners.
@pelagicswimmerАй бұрын
Refugiums can pull out trace elements and tend to get dirty, plus it would need to be pretty large to run on a 3000 litre tank, I like the pod side of a refugium but lanthanum is very specific, cheap and easy to use. I used it for years on my previous tank with no issues.
