I have a 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3 L. It'll run forever. This engine lasts if you change the oil regularly and take care of it. 1. You need to change the belt. 2. You need new tires, if even you buy new used tires. That will help with the front end. Bad tires will wear it out fast. 3. The crank windows are a plus, less to break less to short out. 4. The 5 speed transmission is a plus. It'll last forever unlike an automatic. Its also a great anti theft deterrent for most car thieves. 5. You can live without AC. I'm 63 and I do and you'll be fine. Builds character ;) Good job on this truck what you've done so far and on getting it, learning to drive the stick and if you take care of this truck it'll be around 10 years from now still running.

1. Belt ordered. 2. I have the stock set. Front suspension and likewise was already worn out. 3 & 4. Yes 5. A/C is fixed at the moment, but i may have a leak.

I wouldn’t necessarily call them a cheap truck to buy unless it’s a high mileage one like this, the nicer ones with lower mileage can fetch a decent chunk of change. It’s also a 30 year old truck, most of the things that are broken on it are normal. The 2.3 is bulletproof, especially since you’ve got the manual transmission that’s made by Mazda. It’s not a ‘94 either, it’s a ‘93 since ‘94 added a 6th digit to the odometer, third one doesn’t have it.

i mean i’m the second owner, we had the original title from 1994. also my truck uses r134a a/c refrigerant, which in years past, like 1993, they used freon/r12.

Bought one myself recently about a month ago last June for the same price. 2.3L 5 speed with 126k miles. I put about 500 on it because I had to replace the stock starter and I wanted to fix the ac. Honestly such a good ride, and best car to learn to drive a manual. I actually bought it and drove it back home without knowing how to drive a manual. Planning on keeping it until I can't get any parts for it anymore.

Just an advice. If you want to fix your ac make sure to check for your heater control valve under the hood. If that's not the problem then blend door actuator might be the problem and that requires cutting the housing under the dash.

@@owenmiller378 If you can tackle replacing a parking brake cable you can definitely manage some basic AC diagnosis. There's videos on KZbin you can watch to help. If all it needs is a recharge you can easily do that yourself with a $25 - $50 can of refrigerant.
