You had to have focus and skill to play this game. Games like Defender. Joust. Missile Command. Asteroids. All had a theme in their games - play harder and faster as you progress towards every level to turn the game over. Those were the days.

The Adventures of Major Havoc: the way the game should've been made. With the greatest ending & other cool things!
@Aaron-by3ke4 ай бұрын
Major Havoc is the most advanced arcade game to feature vector graphics. They put a lot of detail into everything, including Major Havoc with his antics. I played this in the arcades and it was a fun game with an interesting control scheme. Very underrated arcade game that deserves to be talked about more.

Installed this in an X-arcade box. Prefer spinner to trackball/roller because I first played MH on a Tempest conversion kit when I was a kid. groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=268

patience = more points I think the most you can get is 800 points for pumping up Pooka's at the lowest level and 1000 for Frygars. So 1000-2000 points max potentially for the last 2 enemies if you want to blast through levels quick. But you won't always get two Frygars at the end of a levels/pump them both up at the bottom for 1k each. A rock drop on the last two enemies is 2500 points so that's why I go for it each level. That extra 500 points adds up across 240+ levels when you are trying to max out score per level/get a WR caliber score at the kill screen. But the reality is that you also might just pump out the last two Pookas at the top for just 200 points each, so that would be just 400 points vs 2500 on those levels. I agree that it is a big drag to have to waste time grouping up the last two enemies every level from around 12+. But that's the price you have to pay for high scores ;)
@RScott4137 ай бұрын
I have to use the pump ALOT more to get it all and typically end up with 8200... Then again I have only made 690k for a high score. Funny how much of the same technique and pattern we use and i have never posted a video about it. Like levels 13, 17, 21, 25, 29 or 14, 18, 22 and 26. We are a little different about 8, 24, 15, 19 and those but everything else is pretty close. You are good at pumping in tight situations. NICE

Why do you skip the O2 until after activating the reactor?
@jerky512dslextreme10 ай бұрын
Because they are worth more points when they turn yellow... Oxoid (Purple): 100 points Oxoid (Yellow): 1,000 points for first, 1,200 points for second, 1,400 points for third, etc. Oxygen bonus for exiting maze is 100 points times the number of oxygen counts left.

This is the only platformer I can think of that uses a trackball. And I always wondered what happens when you clear all the bricks in that mini-breakout game...
@ManekiNeko1972Ай бұрын
It's been about 15 years since I did it. IIRC, you get 10,000 points and it says well done. On subsequent levels, it just shows Major Havoc.

Great game. masively imposible to ever complete it
@jerky512dslextreme11 ай бұрын
This was a TAS and Cheat free playback through to the Homeworld with lives to spare. So at least one person completed it. Granted I did design and play test all these new levels for years b4 this ;) But, I think a skilled and motivated player with the proper control setup could study this playback and pull it off esp since we got rid of adaptive difficulty and dialed down the space wave difficulty to make it much fairer than the OG arcade version. You can also earn more extra lives from the Breakout game that now resets after you clear it. I think too many people try to play this game without a dial/roller that is also setup right resolution wise. They feel like it's impossible with a keyboard/joystick...that's because it never was designed with those controls in mind.

How do you get this set up on Mame?
@jerky512dslextreme Жыл бұрын
For now you need to use HBAME to play Major Havoc the Promised End and Tournament Edition. My understanding is that the MAMEdev gods want to keep romhacks and homebrew games separate from regular flavor MAME. This is mainly so they don't have to deal with supporting and documenting all the romhacks that are just slight graphical changes of the original (like all the different Donkey Kong themed ones out there for example). The Major Havoc Project is a bit more than a rom hack to say the least. We have worked for years with the original designer Owen Rubin to create the "promised" Homeworld ending for the game while designing new levels, implementing a new enemy with their own secret bonus levels(Maxoids), speech and numerous other features he had intended to include before Atari rushed it out during the arcade crash. This included all new coding and level design plus hundreds and hundreds of ours of play testing to deliver a finished version of the game. We had so many ideas that it turned into two versions: The Promised End and the Tournament Edition. You can also play both of these on an original Major Havoc arcade machine or conversion kit after some hardware modifications. We hope that MAME eventually adds our project as a finished game, but for now you can still play it on HBAME. HBMAME and MHPE rom links below: hbmame.1emulation.com/ github.com/jessaskey/mhavocpe/tree/master/ROMs mhedit.askey.org/PromisedEnd.aspx Happy Gaming!
