Any idea on how to send midi to tracks when using VCV as a plugin in a DAW? I'm trying it at the moment but so far no luck. Will keep trying an respond to my q if i figure it out.

You want to send MIDI from, for example a sequencer inside VCV to another track in your DAW? It depends on the DAW, some allow you to reroute MIDI internally, with others you might need to use a loopback program.

Thanks for this, Melvin! I have one question: is there a more “cientific” way of doing this? I would mostly use my ears for this as you did, but sometimes I doubt or get my ears tired or distracted and then would like to have a more “exact” tool of measuring this. I sometimes use the spectrum analyser to find the loudest frequency which should be the root, but… do you know about some pluggin or device that could give you this information in a more accurate way? Thanks!
@optoproductions
@optoproductions 17 күн бұрын
I don't know any tool more accurate than our ears 😄 Maybe with Izotope RX it's a bit easier to see but the start and end pitch aren't that useful. It's mainly about the average pitch. Or with this method you could check at which note your peakmeter is the loudest, as similar notes add constructively.

When I first started producing music I used an old mac. I had a lot of space on that since I was using an SSD as my sample bank. Times have changed, I got married and have a kid now. I don't even know how to turn on that old macbook. I think the battery needs to be replaced who knows. I'm on my wifes Lenovo laptop. Not a lot of function, no space to really have all those fancy vsts. I'm going to download dexed again- because before I used to over look it because its free. But what I overlooked the most was its most useful feature. It is such a small vst when compared in SIZE for your hard drive. I was going to download Arturia Lab V since I don't have any of my old vsts. Dexed was incredibly short of a download, and I NEVER UNDERSTOOD the UI! Now I do! Thank you for doing this tutorial. Those pads at the end were honestly very eye opening to how powerful this free vst is. My favorite thing to do is find old pianos with presets to find good midi sounds to make beats. I overlooked this simple vst so many times because Omnisphere. Why not? But I don't have that luxury of space anymore. I'm about to get back into producing and DEXED is going to be the only vst I probably have. This laptop really isnt for producing music but, Dexed will definitely save my processing power! WOOHOO THANKS!! Otherwise, I'd be getting that battery in my 2010 macbook (85$) & charger (50$?) and probably a slew of other crap I really don't want to get. VS!! Free, and NOW!! I recommend checking out a review of dexed vs Arturia DX7. DEXED IMO IS WAY BETTER! It's nice to see someone using the presets as well. I've heard about ROM1A and ROM1B. I'm about to have so much fun! ALL BECAUSE ITS SUCH A TINY FOOT PRINT! THANK YOU! ALSO IM USING REAPER ON THIS LAPTOP. UI IS SO OVERRATED. THE OPTIONS TO DO SOMETHING REALLY CHANGES THE GAME, AND DEXED IS NO EXCEPTION!!

thank you very much for the tutorial, but I can't solve my problem. When recording my DFAM or modular equipment (not Midi), following your advice by doing rec/stop/play everything is set correctly...thks!!!! The problem is when I want to record my oscillators with Ableton audio effects, during the monitoring listening I hear latency. If I want to add a delay or another effect it will always have to be hardware? Can't I use software EFX inside an ableton track and listen to the results in real time? thanks again and again
@optoproductions
@optoproductions Ай бұрын
That's right, it takes time for your interface and computer to process sound, there's no way around that. You can decrease your buffersize and use low latency plugins. In case of reverb you can monitor directly if your interface supports it and send a 100% wet copy to the reverb in parallel.

They still haven't fixed that routing audio out of return tracks to anywhere except the master introduces latency. This is probably to prevent feedback loops, but the issue arises that random amounts of latency creep in as your project gets more complex to the point where delays are going out of sync etc. Makes the return system pointless and makes you have to use work-arounds like using the gate devices monitoring input as a substitute
@optoproductions
@optoproductions Ай бұрын
In that case you need to disable the sends on the audio track you're routing to by right clicking on them. But I agree there's still a lot to improve.
