Hi Daniel, I would give anything for a shot like this. I also have EC680 + Eureka Mignon XL + Bottomless portafilter. My problem is, if I grind too fine, coffee barely comes out and it's super bitter taste if I grind normal, coffee comes out way too fast, there's no way to keep the machine for 20 seconds, I would have 120 ml of water. There's just not way around it. I'm using 14 grams of fresh coffee as well. I think my machine has much more bar pressure than yours, yours seems to be operating at 9-10, mine is at least 13-15 bars I'm not sure. My water comes out really fast. Do you think this could be the difference? Because I swear, I tried 20 different types of grind settings from coarse to ultra fine, ultra ultra fine like powder. Nothing works. The moment the coffee is not like super fine grind the water comes out way too fast. And if it's super fine grind it barely comes out and it's extremely bitter! I'm so tired of this :(
@DanielDeneka2 жыл бұрын
Hi @gen66, Eureka Mignon XL is more than capable of grinding for EC680. The problem with setting the right grind size could be related to the grinder retention - I had a Ceado e6p which is very similar to Eureka and finding a correct setting was also hard. You need to purge some coffee before the new setting is applied. But you should start from the setting where the coffee just drips & grind a bit coarser. What also could help is improved distribution using some WDT tool (wine cork with needles works just fine) and using a paper filters on top of the coffee bed (you can cut them out from pour over coffee filter/aeropress filter).

Thanks for sharing. Do you start timing the extraction from when you press the button until the pump stops? or do you time from when you first see a drop of coffee until the coffee stops pouring? Also have you measured the water temperature coming out? I have to run my machine several times to get over 90c. Unfortunately doing this causes the descale light to come on after 1 week of use.
@DanielDeneka4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! I'm starting to count the time after first drop pours and stopping the extraction manually (by pressing the brew button again) after I reach the expected brew ratio - in this case 28g which took around 29s if you count from the first drop. I did stop the machine at around 26g and 2g did came out after machine was off. I've only measured coffee temperature in the cup (double wall glass, preheated) and it was 70c so I guess it was ok. Before my morning coffee I did run the machine empty two times preheating it (and the cup) and the coffee was made at third run. Descaling indicator is just a suggestion made based on a water hardness level set in the machine. I was using soft water from my brita filter and did set it to soft (here is a guide kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKiUXn1jpt6Yh6s). But to be honest I was just ignoring this indicator and descaling once a 2-3 months - because I know I have really soft water (I don't have any residue on my kitchen equipment). I hope that helped, cheers!

@DanielDeneka4 жыл бұрын
Gdybyś miał więcej pytań to zadawaj, chętnie pomogę. Pozdrawiam, Daniel
