My old white lady perspective is, for a black woman who wants long hair, it's the way to go. Those chemical companies don't care if you get cancer so why should you give them your money?

Dread locks make more sense than exposing yourself to a bunch of chemicals. I'm thinking about getting them. I'm an old white retired lady so I don't have to worry about looking standard for the job market.

Is there a product that you recommend to put on it before you use the flex rods? That won’t leave white residue or buildup in your locks.

People should be comfortable with themselves no matter what hairstyle they choose. I live in one of the least diverse states in the union, however, I guess at my age, I don't care what stereotypes other people have. I waited a long time to get locks because I have always had mid-back length hair pre-locks, and I always waited because I didn't want to have frizz. But you know, I just don't reject my natural self now. I would rather have a natural style that my hair cooperates with, than to beat my hair down to achieve other styles that cause my hair to be weak or to break. And to be honest, I have been the only black person in the room most of my life. That won't stop my from denying my frizzy DNA. I love it, and love to see my coily ends. Good luck with your style. Everyone should make that decision for themselves. I love to see more people rocking natural and protective styles and embracing their own unique look. I agree with you, my (your) hair, my (your) choice. Hopefully whatever style you choose comes from a deep sense of self-love, and desire to create a style that reflects it.

THE 7 REASONS: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1. IF YOU LIKE TO STYLE CONSTANTLY (THERE'S ONLY SO MUCH YOU CAN DO W/ LOCS, REMEMBER THEY'RE PERMANENT) 2. IF YOU LIKE A NEAT LOOK (GETS FRIZZY, WILL NOT LOOK NEAT MOST THE TIME) 3. IF YOU'RE GETTING THEM FOR LENGTH (TAKES A VERY LONG TIME TO GET LONG. TAKES CONSISTENCY AND PATIENCE TO ACHIVE) 4. IF YOU ARE NOT FULLY CONFORTABLE IN YOUR BLACKNESS (SORTA DOUBLE MINORITY; LOCS ARE NOT THAT WIDESPREAD, ON TOP OF BEING BLACK) 5. CAN REALLY AFFECT YOUR CONFIDENCE ("UGLY STAGE", WHEN YOU'RE STARTING. YOU WILL HAVE UPS AND DOWNS, TEACHES YOU TO STAY STRONG/PATIENT/CONFIDENT) 6. IF YOU ARE TRYING TO LOOK EXACTLY LIKE SOMEONE ELSE (EVERYONE'S HAIR *WILL* BE DIFFERENT! OWN YOUR OWN HAIR) 7. IF YOU HAVE FRAGILE EDGES OR HAIRLINE (THEY GAIN WEIGHT OVER TIME. IF YOUR EDGES/HAIRLINE IS FRAGILE, IT CAN THIN)

The only thing about cutting the locks is you can cut much more of the length (if retention is important) because the actual hair/loc shrinks, three to five inches can appear much shorter when the lock is in its untouched state… you’re strictly cutting length of the shedded hair, your actual healthy “new growth” is intertwined as well…. you have no way of knowing just how short the hair will wind up being…

This was the best tips and advice that I have found ANYWHERE! In November 2022 combo out my daughters Locs after 4 years and it was amazing in the beginning but 3 months in major breakage! But cutting, deep conditioning, protein , proper oils and patience has finally paid off. 8 months later we are finally seeing and retaining healthy shiny hair. Thanks for tips

This video really annoys me as a man because the hairstyle I guess you wouldn't be able to do are white girl hairstyles YOUR NOT WHITE YOUR BLACK, white girls cant have dreads & I never hear them complain about that, I feel black females are suppose to have dreads because its the only hairstyle black people can have for our hair to naturally fall to the ground, these lace fronts and wigs are sad and im just tired of it, the Baily sisters have the right idea and I pray oneday black women wake and make locks there go to forever hairstyle and stop trying to have white hair cause you think its better then your hair
