I'm 67 years old and what I'm going to refer to is actually before my time. However I have worked on 150 / 165 Cummins engines { Intake & exhaust on the same side} and 220s all the way up to small bore 335s{ 5.1/8 in bore all. } Then came the 5.1/2in bore all the way from 250 to a 12 cylinder !!! I made my life on Cummins !!

Seth mine doesn’t have cruise. It’s a 5 speed. But I’m like you, I just want to get up, start the truck, have this little setup that will actually save me 10 minutes in the morning. TA TA Actually, it's about the "K" series. 1150 cubes.
@garywalker84937 жыл бұрын
Ken Caldwell this is not about k series engines, this is a promo song directly targeting highway use which at the time was essentially 100% using the 855 cu in/14 liter straight 6. K series engines were primarily marine or stationary power generators either straight 6 or v12 and were physically too large for a standard truck. Dad worked there for many years and was loosely associated with the song. I worked there in engineering and know how their products were used at that time. We discused this song in detail when it was made. Cummins also had a v8 that was mostly used in buses.
@kencaldwell13997 жыл бұрын
I heard about this song on The Tim Ridley show on XM. The gentleman was a Cummins employee who was a guest a few times to speak on the history of Cummins engines. I don't know if the shows are available on podcast or not, but I heard the show about the 855 series and this was not mentioned. It was mentioned in detail on the show about the K series as Cummins was marketing it as the way to get fuel economy. I know the 855 was ruling the roads then and the K was not in many trucks, but that was Cummins' plan, according to this person.
@Oceandiver117273 жыл бұрын
@@garywalker8493 I was working for Cummins when this song came out. It was in support of using K engines in on highway trucks. The whole thing was a bust in the long run, the K's were just too much power for a class 8 truck. As the saying goes, diesel's like to run loaded up, most of the K's just developed leaks all over the place because they were not in fact being loaded for what they were built to do. Unique applications were successful, like sand haulers, but not for the on highway guys.

+dave194315 well. We could see who has the bigger balls by towing 80000 kg (176369 lbs) up a 5% grade (139 meters up in 2.8 km). The engine in your dinky car would melt the balls off of a brass monkey, if it didn't die trying to start out. And no, I do not dip any form of feces, but if you want, bet 2 dozen chocolate dipped donuts and give them to me after I pull your dinky car(and two trailers totalling 160000kgs) off the road. Not only that, your molten iron left from the engine block would have to be scraped off the pavement before the DOT/MTO got there. Plus, this song was made way before pickup truck diesels. And don't fight me because I know because gramps had the first pickup diesel. A Ford gas burner V8 converted to diesel by Ford and it ran like a hunk of junk
