Hi it's me kahlan we met at that American kennel club I'm whatching your podcast like you said to🐶🦊🐾😁🦴

Watching whippets in competition on the internet from other countries I find them to have a different look than the US dogs...also, at times, I'm disappointed that the breed is getting so big here in the US....I know they're still within the standard at the shows but IMO the bigger dogs kind of lose the look of the original style of Whippet. These days in the US, I'm not sure what the judges are looking for bigger head? smaller head? Ears? Gait? Eyes?...handler? maybe they aren't as versed on that breed? I'm not sure? The competition is definitely tough on the West coast ...but there are some very beautiful dogs here. I dabble in showing my girl, nothing real serious and we do ok.

I do believe there needs to be a national push for Responsible Dog Ownership and all that it entails. The 'Adopt don't Shop' agenda is out of date and has long needed to be replaced with education - and the huge pat on the back and applause for - 'Being a Responsible Pet Owner.' The 'Adopt don't Shop' slogan, these days, means to essentially 'clean up after irresponsible breeders and owners,' instead of supporting responsible ones. Today's world and the makeup of the pet buying general public majority consists of purely impulse buyers, that even with having the ability to educate themselves in seconds from a quick google search, refuse to do so, while also 100% knowingly buying pets from irresponsible breeders. Unfortunately, the number of irresponsible breeders for any given breed/cross grows exponentially every year while also being extremely accessible to the general public, to the point the general pet buying public no longer cares if they get their pet from a responsible or irresponsible breeder - they just want to get their pet from the easiest, closest source. None of that will change unless the Dog World community can come together for the common goal, instead of continuing all the little skirmishes that separates everyone and pushes interested pet people right into the arms of irresponsible breeders and owners they abhor. I also 100% agree that a dog does not have to have a title in order to be responsibly bred.

A beautiful dog bonded with a beautiful woman is a powerful duo. I’ve never met either of you but damn I’m heart broken for you. I know the heartbreak of losing a bonded dog. It sucks more than losing a loved one in human form.

We need benched shows again. Since the cow palace show is gone I think a lot of breeders have no way for people to come and see their dogs . People would flock to this show looking for a dog , find where all the ones were that they were interested in were and then speak to the breeders and exhibitors if those breeds and put their name on the list for a puppy. Thus is sorta the online version I’m guessing. Btw I tried the breed matching quiz and I got none of the breeds that I would own except for French Bulldog. I got Golden , OES, Lhasa ! I got no Afghan, English Setter, or Boston Terrier! Not even a ETS! So lol idk maybe it’s more for people who are just looking for any dog breed that’ll suit them, not so much someone who’s willing to change their lifestyle to better fit the breed , which, I guess, is apparently what I’ve been doing lol 😂

Great, but what about CHV? My vet told me there isn't a good test. That we would have to draw blood and send it to a University Research Veterinary Hospital for analysis for antibodies. This is not a normal tested virus. OFA and CHIC, Embark.... not a one tests for it. It is highly contagious just from a simple nose to nose sniffing of an infected dog - let alone as a STD. The virus kills puppies, and causes seizures & neurological defects in the surviving pups. Why is this not a standard health screening before breeding?
