A cavitation plate only helps with the hole shot.... especially in shallow water. It’s great for tunnel hull boats. I have used them for over 30 years.

the plate is meant to be underwater otherwise it will not work - on good thing about them is they can be a step to get into the boat

It’s fiberglass, will break if you step onto it, it runs on top of the water. Only used for holeshot.

What the hell are you talking about? Both false.

Only needs to be underwater during the hole shot. That's the entire point. To keep prop from losing grip during hole shot.

All wrong. The purpose of the plate is to catch the water coming from the tunnel and push it back down onto the prop and water intake. This increases prop bite during the holeshot, while running elevated on the jackplate, and while making turns. It also improves water pressure while running elevated. I have run my boat with and without the plate and it is a completely different boat when the plate is off. It struggles 10x more to jump out of the hole, loses grip in turns, loses grip while elevated, and loses water pressure while elevated.

@@ManRod555 I'm new to boating maybe you can help me. I run a 15 foot v hull in shallow water but every time I take off the stern goes down so low that the engine hits the mud. Would a cavitation plate help my boat stay a bit more horizontal during take off and avoid hitting the mud? I run a Boston Whaler 150 montauk in usually 17-24 inches of water (during low tide). Thanks in advance.

What type of trim tabs are being used...smart tabs or hydraulic trim tabs? What cavitation plate is installed? What size and pitch prop is being run?

Does the Patriot have trim tabs and/or shallow blaster cavitation plate installed during these takeoffs? What prop was being used?

Is this a tunnel hull? Did you find that you can run your motor higher with the cav plate than without it? Thanks!

You can run it higher as it forces more water to the prop preventing cavitation and water pump screen. also breaks bubbles… but this boat used is a bay boat with a tunnel hull.. usually runs 5” more shallow with these… only thing that can help prevent cavitation is cupping the prop …

You can't run it any higher with a cavitation plate. I run a cavitation plate, jack plate and low water pickup on a tunnel... The cavitation plate is completely out of the water with the jack plate up. Essentially doing nothing.
