You have to be careful that you don’t take too much off the gullet because the blade will start to pull itself into the wood. Set is usually not a problem. I used one of those cheap Harbour freight circular saw blade sharpeners and made an adaptor for band saw blades and it works quite well.
@SilvasSmallMining
@SilvasSmallMining 7 күн бұрын
@@D-B-Cooper That makes sense. I only cleaned up the gullet to check for cracks and dressed the tooth tips back to a point. It has worked amazingly well. I have 5 other bands that I need to resharpen. I’ll do it on my workbench on a rainy/snowy day. Thanks for the tip! Thanks for watching! Take care.

How many teeth are on than ban do you think? It's totally worth trying to sharpen them and get some more miles out of that baby!

@@Goldpan-SuntanNM There has to be a hundred or so teeth. It definitely resharpened the band. I cut the whole log with it and it still cuts good. Washing all the dirt and rocks from the log also helps extend band life. I still have three more logs to process, but they are likely covered in snow by now up on the mountain. Thanks for watching G&S! Take care.

Great job man. Our forests really need more of this. My stihl ms261 was doing the same.First thing I checked was the summer/winter shutter to make sure it was set to the correct temp range. If temps outside are over 40°F have the shutter in summer mode. Higher idle was a temporary fix in the field I took my saw to RC Engines in Reno and told them most the cutting I do is between 6,000 to 8,000 foot elevation. They put a new jet in and now the saw idle is is perfect low and slow and when on the throttle it reves way quicker to it's high RPMs. I think that shop is closed but any stihl certified shop can do the service. You can do the service yourself but would need a way of reading the saws RPMs to get the full potential when tuning the saw after a re-jet. How is the trommel comming?
@SilvasSmallMining
@SilvasSmallMining 2 ай бұрын
@@dirtypawsgoldadventures I got the saw tuned after I got done cutting. It really was just the idle screw. I used to run Silva’s Small Engine of Reno. I repaired and tuned all kinds of equipment. Covid lockdowns ruined my business. I’ll get back on the trommel at some point. I’ve got so much other stuff to do in the meantime. Firewood and lumber milling are on the chore list for this month.
