Hi, thanks for this video - very helpful. I’ve found that sea trout tend to spit the hooks fairly regularly when I use Toby lures. Would you suggest using the 2 split rings method on the 20g versions? Also, I’m going to try using the hooks you suggested. I see you’ve posted a link below, but what size of hook are you using? Many thanks, Willie 🙂

@@lburton8369 I bought the Vanford C5000xg to pair it up with my 10 foot rod. But I sent it back... personal preference with most fishing tackle isnt it, I know the C stands for compact in Shimano lettering for reels. Even for a 5000 reel it seemed so small when I attached it to the rod. It just didn't look right. Is your reel in the video a ci 14 4000 older model. The reel body looks bigger than the C5000xg Vanford. I was wondering if just a normal Stradic or Vanford 4000 without the (c) compact sizing would be like your size reel on the video? I am going to use a Penn spinfisher 4500 it's got a bigger body design & bigger line capacity spool. I know the Spinfisher is semi sealed for saltwater etc but it's tough and more durable which is what I would prefer over refinement. I haven't really found any freshwater designed spinning reels I really like. Plus I don't like graphite. Any reels you could recommend? Sorry that's like loads of questions ha

Ah thought i recognised that gravel, probably met you on the bank down there. How did your season pan out i never really put in any hours this season once the low water hit in april/may but did have a few good sea trout to 4lb on the fly, then it seems to have not stopped raining and we've had high water for ages. Was up the Endrick earlier and had one good pull and seen a few fish move but no joy, maybe get one or 2 days in to save the blank this season. Ross

Apologies @ross, I don’t check the channel as much as I should - just seen a comment there and seen there were quite a few I never got around to replying to including yours. We have most likely had a chat down on the bank as that was the main area I stuck to. My season was a bit of a write off that year, just didn’t put the hours in and once COVID came around I sort of lost the bug. Managed a few Sea trout earlier in the season but nothing substantial. Didn’t fish at all this season but hoping to get back on it for next season. Hope your season improved and you had a good 2021 season and have managed to keep safe. Had 7 for my season so far including a monster farmed fish of 26lb in the low water during the summer which made things interesting landing it 3 pools down stream.
