What’s it called when you slide your thumb against the tambourine? I remember my percussion professor telling me about this but I forget. Very good performance though!

This is difficult. Clean and consistent rolls are tough. He did amazing.

The thumb roll technique is difficult. Basically you have to slide your thumb along the tambourine and allow the friction to “vibrate” it along, causing the shake effect. I have yet to master this; granted, I am no percussionist.

Percussions take a more sparce role in western orchestral music but their presence is greatly noticed

Very nice! I Can ask you how did you manage to isolate the "tamburello basco" part from the original recording? thank you very much

I'm fairly certain this is the entirety of the tambourine part in all of Petrushka.
@mrtchaikovsky
@mrtchaikovsky Жыл бұрын
@@lc1715 That is certainly not the case, as the tambourine also plays in the opening scene and the Russian dance, and of course there is the famous passage during Petroushka's death in which the percussionist is instructed to hold the tambourine close to the floor and let it fall. As an aside, the tambourine part in this video was added by Stravinsky for the 1946 revision of the work; it does not appear in the original 1911 score.

@@mrtchaikovsky Aha. I’m really only familiar with the original 1911 version that Boosey and Hawkes published, a score I own, so that must be why.
