I'm surprised the conductor didn't step off his train and do a roll-by of the passing train.

That is due to the early technology of personal "camcorders." The cameras these days have improved exponentially in quality, and the media used to store the video for future viewing has vastly improved.

Good video - shame the operator kept adjusting the engine governor every 20 seconds - the train is 5300 feet long which is just over a mile! constant engine speed adjustments are meaningless with that sheer tonnage. Anyways it was a god intro and the following videos were great also - not a criticism at you but a word to the not so wise operator

Those aren't telephone poles.
@djscrizzle3 ай бұрын
Those pole lines had a couple pair of wire for running the signaling system and power for float charging all the batteries. And a couple spare wires. The rest were usually left over from depreciated functions, but essentially abandoned in place. Before PTC, a pole line really only needed 6 wires to do its job correctly.

@EastTexasProductions4 жыл бұрын
Charles, the train isn't going as slow as it looks in some places. The speed indicator in some shots shows 40 mph, but it looks like 15 or 20 because the person shooting the video is zoomed in so much on the forward view. Zooming in like that compresses the image so much that it makes the movement seem much slower. Look at 21:00 thru 21:10 and you'll see what I'm talking about. Hope that helps.
