This is wing chun. Inosanto doesn’t even teach JKD as Bruce practiced it himself. Hasn’t since the late 70’s. It all mma/kali/Thai boxing/bjj these days. For the record, Jesse Glover Bruce’s first private student, who trained with him for 5 years, probably got more from Bruce than anyone and absolutely knew the direction Bruce was going since when he last saw him in 1965/66 Bruce said “I’m fencing with my hands and feet” there was no wing chun shown. Also, in April 1973 when Bruce sparred Wong Sheung Leung at Bruce’s Kowloon Tong home, Wong specifically said Bruce used “his method” no mention of wing chun. It was a friendly spar since Wong was his Wing Chun instructor before he moved to America. Dan has never shown fencing footwork, a core component of what makes JKD work. Not Wing Chun. Bruce also took trapping and chi sao out the curriculum in 1970/71 and there is evidence to show he stopped doing this himself by 1968. By the 70’s there was little to no wing chun to be seen. JKD is it’s own thing but many people trying to pass of as a JKD instructors are just teaching wing chun or jun fan gung fu, teaching a lot of outdated material, stuff that Bruce moved away from, and no you don’t need a base in either to learn JKD. You need a good instructor of which there are very few because by the 70’s Bruce wasn’t teaching anymore and moved back to Hong Kong so updated information on late stage JKD is only known to very few, and even if Inosanto knows it, he doesn’t teach it or show it. Ted Wong on the other hand actually spent more private one on one time with Bruce than even Inosanto but many people will not tell you that. You should look up an interview with Oakland JKD student Howard Williams, he also trained for 5 years between Bruce and James Lee, one of Bruce’s assistants. It was recorded in 1993. Listen to what he says. It’s pretty interesting.

Yes it’s a process but there is a reason why everyone who is a student under Inosanto looks nothing like Bruce’s Lee JKD in form or application. Jesse was instrumental for helping Tommy, as well as Howard Williams and Ted Wong in finding out what Bruce actually DID. There is a big difference from what Bruce said to what he actually did, same thing with his writings. Inosanto has almost killed Bruce’s art. It looks nothing like late stage JKD. Fencing isn’t a principle, it is a core component of JKD footwork along with old school, modified boxing. You misunderstand me, Jesse wasn’t taught JKD, but he was shown in person by Bruce himself what Bruce was doing at a birthday party in a basement. Bruce showed him the footwork, the mobility, the structure. He saw the body mechanics. He did not need to be taught it to recognise it. Like Jesse himself said in his videos in the footsteps of Bruce Lee featuring Tommy Carruthers, next to nobody has trained the way Bruce did, nor have they followed the guidelines as Bruce laid out, so you have people claiming to do JKD that look nothing like what Bruce did in application. The only person he ever saw in 50 years who has the attributes of Bruce was Tommy, even Bruce’s own family asked Tommy to demonstrate the art as Bruce’s birthday celebrations twice. Nobody else. All other JKD outside of IFO JKD is fraudulent. They don’t follow the principles, nor the progressive weapons chart. All blueprints as laid out by Bruce are ignored in favour of outdated material and other arts. JKD kickboxing? what a joke. How many names have they tried to give and re brand JKD over the years? I’ve seen everything and anything on Bruce. I know there have been many people trying to make money off his name and martial art for a long time. I know people have mislead and misrepresented him and his art for 50 years. The Jun fan curriculum is outdated material. It is not needed for JKD. The two are separate. Are you serious about Wong Sheung Leung? How do you not know he was Bruce’s primary instructor in wing chun? Ip man barely taught Bruce due to Bruce being mixed race and the other students trying to get him kicked out for it, ip man instructed Wong to teach him privately instead. All my information comes from John Little, probably the most well known Bruce Lee historian who has met and interviewed pretty much everyone about Bruce. Likewise, you should find the channel the kung fu genius, he has done 3 very popular interviews with john about Bruce. Also, you should look up Tommy for JKD as Bruce intended it to be. Direct, efficient and simple. None of this JKD concepts nonsese that doesn’t even come from Bruce. William Cheung is the same age as Bruce, Wong was his senior, to both of them. Bruce was better than all of them. Also, sifu Singh is trapped between Jun fan and JKD. He’s stuck in the mud, stole stuff off of Tommy as well, a lot of these guys owe Tommy for showing them a more direct and simple approach they could have figured out themselves if they actually followed Bruce’s principles. One other thing, Bruce moved beyond wing chun. These guys can’t. Like Jesse said Bruce went beyond style.
