i know people who drive a forklift for a living earning $34/hr here in Texas. they earn that because they're honest, diligent, and hard working. the job takes almost no real abstract or critical thinking. it's repetitive. the idea that theres no opportunity for dumb people is a lie. the trick is getting past the HR nightmare that is interviewing for a job. most job interviews require 10x the amount of intelligence than the actual job does.

It has been my experience that many highly intelligent people are difficult to work with. Many lack patience and humility, which are essential to learning. They think they "know it all" and can screw-up dreadfully. Sometimes this is because they plunge into complex problems and work too quickly. By contrast, I have met "slow" people who have been unafraid to admit to having a problem with learning, and so they ask questions until they truly understand. "Slow" people can be diligent and methodical, which is essential for many jobs. I have met "slow" people with a great sense of humour. A fair number of the highly intelligent people I have met have been unpleasant: unable to engage in banter and brutally critical, and capable of guile, manipulation, and dishonesty. Many highly intelligent employees move from one company to another rather quickly. Intelligence does not seem to correlate with creativity. I know this, because I taught people who had fared poorly at school and chosen engineering careers. They had bad maths and language grades, yet I was blown away by their creativity; they could imagine and design useful, practical devices. The external examiner was just as impressed. If you do not fare well academically, do NOT despair! You may become expert at installating solar systems; fixing car wheels, tyres and suspensions; plumbing; customizing motorbikes; interior decorating; etc. As an engineer I am constantly exposed to the fact that there is a huge range of technical "stuff" and I am always impressed by someone who knows their own field inside out. Let humility, dedication, patience, politeness, and good humour be your weapons! And yes! - the person who was bottom in my high school class and failed to get college entrance ultimately became a wealthy business owner. He went into tyres and wheels.

Accomplishing a lot of things by the time you're 18 might require high G, which JP here calls "merit", but it also requires a proper environment and opportunities, which not everyone with "merit" has.

Realizing you’re stupid (I am speaking of myself here using the generic “you”) is a painful but necessary realization (it can take many years to figure out). I wanted to learn those deep concepts and advance science. But it was not for me. I’m not smart enough to get through college to get a degree that pays well. It is what it is. I will just have to find a job that pays the bare minimum and die alone. But it isn’t so bad to enjoy the small things in life. Having low intelligence is practically a death sentence in this complicated world. I wish I was a deep thinker but I can barely make thoughts. Everyone around me is swimming in worlds and can come up with so many insightful ideas and I’m just there barely holding on. It’s especially painful as I made my sense of self worth on being intelligent, which I am not. If I’m not careful I can end up killing myself because of my absentmindedness which is an aspect of stupidity.

If you have common sense and can reason well, it doesn't matter what your score is on an Intelligence test. I know people with high I.Q.'s who ask me for advice on how to handle simple problems in life.

I disagree with a lot of things he says, seems increasingly unhinged over the years, but I have stayed to hear his thoughts that do make sense. Because he thinks like nobody else and that gives credit to his unique & abstract mind. He is really a modern philosopher, with all of his crazy antics too. All of em are crazy.

You say smart people aren't awkward but here you are with your 150+ IQ not able to elegantly Express yourself. I too have a hundred fifty plus IQ. I was diagnosed as having a high I q at about the age of 8. The psychologists said I would have difficulty making friends and they were right. I think I can count my friends on one hand.

High IQ does NOT associate with social "awkwardness" - whatever that is. Not that ANYONE alive can actually articulate what "socially normal" is. Even if any of you strange people could actually imagine yourselves as the author of "normal social behavior", there is ZERO chance that you could ever prove that high IQ people would fall outside that stricture based only on their IQ.

I find this quiet strange, where intelligent people are framed into what university they apply to, what family they are from, or what achievment or occupation group they are in, since I know about some doctors who act like total idiots, not to mention administrative boardleaders who make choices with uttermost consequenses for large part of society, like hospitals. But I know some really smart people as well, more like geniouses as well, and these are people with enormous cognitive abilities, who can outsmart, and outscale a study to the brink of what can be hardly grasped by a normal brain, and these smart people who comes from normal families, and have normal jobs. - I find that quiet strange, not that Harvard applications are filled, but beeing extremly smart doesent mean this direction is where smart people are automatically attracted to. Enough of this, but one thing for sure. The day I found out most people cant define what a star is, but they do read horoscope, and some actually take these messages from astronomy, and many of these are successfull people, who in this case by high positions in life, are the smart ones... Someone said that we are in a negative pattern envolvment as a species, specially when we come to brains cognitivity. To some extent I believe that can be the case, but why? My guess is technology.
