When there are veins is the weak point. Then wouldnt a stone with less veins be more desirable because it would be stronger and less prone to breaking?
@stonesandfindings4 күн бұрын
The veins are a beautiful part of the stone though.

I think those first chains are plated "steel" not stainless steel. Pretty sure stainless isn't magnetic.
@stonesandfindings4 күн бұрын
Steel is a ferrous metal (it has iron in it). Stainless has nickel in it. Both are magnetic. You will find utensils to be made with stainless steel. Take a magnet to it and you'll find out for sure.

Solid gold is better than Gold filled (welding leaves a spot of black where the core is exposed from the welding process) Gold filled is better than gold plated which will tarnish and is not suggested for permanent jewelry. Here are free Product Knowledge posts that give you a break down of definition and manufacturing process, and pros and cons of each: stonesandfindings.com/free-resources-page-pj-jewelry-making-information/

Beautiful! You made these in solid 10K Gold? If so, what would you sell them for?

If I made these in Solid 10K, I would sell them for $200+ It is the time and component cost. For wholesale component costs you can register and account to see wholesale prices of 10K chains and wire. stonesandfindings.com/my-account/

Thank you so much! The welder I used in the video was Orion mPulse by Sunstone. You can do the same thing with the Zapp, Zapp Plus, Orion PJ welders. All of them can have power low enough to weld that with precision.

Thank you for this tutorial. I have purchased a dainty, handmade beaded necklace on Etsy. The beads are 1.2 to 2mm. Would the artist have used this technique, you reckon? In my mind I can't imagine how minuscule loops are made by hand. Way smaller than the ones shown here. And so even and perfect! Do machines that create 1mm loops exist?
@stonesandfindings14 күн бұрын
Machines can create 1mm loops, but welding them closed is difficult. You would be surprised at how small and perfectly wrapped you can make them by hand - with lots of practice of course. Most dainty wire wrapped looking pieces are actually made by hand - usually in India and Thailand.

Hi Dana! Would you recommend using a strong magnet from Amazon to test gold, sterling silver etc? I know you made a video on acid testing but I’m wondering how well a magnet would be , especially for on the go! Thank you!
@stonesandfindings16 күн бұрын
Hi Deena - you don't need a very special magnet. Save yourself the trouble. Just get a fridge magnet. If it is strong enough to lift a paperclip or nail easily, it will suffice.

Thank you for a great video. I am tending towards not purchasing the argon to start off however all the examples and videos show silver/gold filled jewelry. What about stainless steel? Still ok to solder without argon? Thank you very much for your answer!
@stonesandfindings16 күн бұрын
The same goes for stainless steel. It is not the metal that makes the difference, rather it is the thickness. Industrial welding for bicycles or I-beams MUST have argon for the strength and integrity. However, for permanent jewelry sized jump rings, it is so small that you don't notice the difference by much. When I weld bangles and stud posts (20 ga and thicker), I do notice the difference in the smoothness (less pitting and smoother because it cools faster.

Thanks for this informative video and all of the information. Do you use argon each time for your clients? If not, how do you pick when to use and when not to use?
@stonesandfindings27 күн бұрын
I don't use argon each time. I would suggest it for chain or areas that have small crevices, areas hard to get into with your brush bristle. The other one would be with gold filled, if you want to. With sterling silver, the oxidation will wash off after a shower or two.

Thank you so much for the update! I purchased an Argon tank and regulator after doing permanent jewelry for the last 6 months. I was told by an experienced welder that it was absolutely necessarily. After having a handful of welds break from a set of new jump rings, I thought that might be the answer I was looking for. Have yet to use it at an event due to the inconvenience of the size and weight of the tank for travel.

I am delighted that you found this video update helpful. It makes me feel that it was worthwhile filming and editing this. I do not blame your friend - there's a great deal of confusion out there and you want to provide the best quality possible. Good luck with sales, I can tell you care a lot about your customers and business.

Thank you for not editing and keeping the original video. Your daughter is so cute with her suggestion. As you know in business, these "learning curves" are how people get better and learn how to fix mistakes. I have just started my research journey and exploring if this could be my "side hustle" as you put it in another video. Thank you again!!
@stonesandfindings29 күн бұрын
Thank you for this note - I smiled while reading it. I completely agree with you on embracing the mistakes. That is how we learn. And if we don't make many mistakes, it just means we aren't trying enough new things. I applaud you! Being entrepreneurial, you will also model that for your kids - that is something that classrooms cannot compare.

Hi, i just purchased zapp welder, does it work on stainless steel jump rings? It feels it didn't work in mine with standard jump ring. Or can you show me the setting for stainless steel?
@stonesandfindingsАй бұрын
It should weld stainless steel, and any metals that conduct electricity. You would have to weld at higher power than 925 silver and gold filled. Test at different power settings, slowly reduce power, each time checking for security.

How hot does the water need to be?
@stonesandfindingsАй бұрын
The idea is to melt the baking soda and salt and combine them evenly. I have just boiled the water in my tea kettle. My tap water doesn't get very hot, so I don't use that. Perhaps your tap water gets very hot, so it may be easier, but kettle for tea is great.
