Trick. Loop string around bolt and turn it similar to a pulley. Place magnet under and out it comes. On install once you start bolt (which is not always simple) you can do string turn again the clockwise direction.

How did you center the cover???? That is more important than people think. It may not leak right away, but the people who say they have no problems after not centering the cover never post after 40,000 miles and say they're still good!!!

Excellent video! I have the same radio, except my problem is the digital display is so dim I cant see it. Any idea what could be the issue? I swapped in a different radio just to verify it is indeed a problem with the radio and not an issue with the vehicle or the dimmer switch.
@ATDGarage
@ATDGarage 3 ай бұрын
I have no idea unfortunately. You could get a microscope and check the solder points for cracks around the display area. Sounds like the backlight went out or has a bad ground causing it to be dim, You might be able to find a pin out of the display and check for resistance using a multimeter to help find a possible bad solder point if that’s even the problem, but to be honest I have 0 clue how those displays work.

Doesn't the distributor need a resistor wire for it not to eventually burn up from too much voltage?

Those Briggs updraft carbs had issues with the emulsion tubes leaking by the chamfered seat and the carb body. Teflon washers were the approved mod to cure the issue.

Just an FYI, you can pull the rubber door seal trim off the car along the bottom of the door, and there is actually a convenient channel pre-molded into the white plastic carpet framing that fits the power wire perfectly. I was able to thread it through that all the way to the rear of the car in minutes!

@ATDGarage thanks a bunch. I tried to unbolt that bolt on the pickup tube like you did but had no luck or patience to i had to drop the oil pan, which wasn't as bad as I expected. Anyway, I think my new oil pan gasket shifted at those 2 bolts. Have all the rest in expected the 2 i asked about. Hey, great video that you did. Someone needs to punch the engineers at gmc & chevy in the mouth who designed that motor. For making it difficult to remove that pickuo tube bolt, that back #8 spark plug on the passenger side and that oil switch way in the back of the engine block under the firewall. Thanks dude

14:48 the black probe is going into speaker wire, what is that speaker wire connected to? In the video it looks like a loose pile of wire laying in the seat not connected to anything. I'm doing that right now and multi meter isn't beeping. I must be missing something that the speaker wire should be plugged into. The LOC? The subwoofer? To be clear, in the video at 14:48 he's got one end of the speaker wire in his hand, what's the other end connected to?
@ATDGarage
@ATDGarage 6 ай бұрын
We were testing to make sure the wire that we were running to the loc had a connection to the left and right speaker connections for one of the door speakers. We stuck one end of the meter in the connector that goes in the back of the radio and one end to the end of the speaker wire making sure we had a connection between the two

Nice. I don’t see why you had to go to the back of the radio. The speaker wires run to each rear door so why couldn’t you grab the set of wires in the harness near the driver rear door?
@JubeiX90
@JubeiX90 6 ай бұрын
@@telhack693 From all the videos I've found and forum posts I've seen, I believe the concerns are the wire colors might not be consistent. Might be blue wire coming from the back of the head unit, but at the door at the speaker it might be a different color. This is just stuff I've read so I don't know for certain.

How much torque does the timing chain screw have?
@TheBucktowncrazy
@TheBucktowncrazy 7 ай бұрын
First, great job!!! About to do mine using your video. Not sure if you realize, but when you started torquing the guide bolts, you said torque to 10lbs, then said 18. But i watched and it looks like you did 10lbs stopping when that beeping occurred. And i have to say you're brave when screwing back in that pick-up line bolt. You had paper under it when taking it off, but not when putting it in. Guess that magnet was strong. Again, great job!!!!

@genepatnode8392 oh nice that’s a fun job. I’m pretty sure the only reason we had to change it so early on is it was run low on oil a few times and shortened the life of the chain guides.

You ALWAYS change the chain, cam sprocket, and the crank sprocket, all as a set when you do a timing chain job otherwise you will wear the chain so fast you will repeat this entire procedure in a few years or less!
