Excellent CREW RESOURCE MANAGEMENT CRM SITUATIONAL AWARENESS SA RECURRENT SIMULATOR CREW TRAINING FLIGHT SAFETY INTERNATIONAL SAVANNAH, Ga. USA Source aviation Safety Network ASN Date: Monday 18 April 1983 Time: 08:10 Type: Gulfstream American G-1159 Gulfstream II Owner/operator: Jet Ejecutivos-Televisa S.A. Registration: XA-FOU MSN: 152 Fatalities: Fatalities: 0 / Occupants: Aircraft damage: None Location: Mallow - Ireland Phase: Approach Nature: Unknown Departure airport: Newark New Jersey Destination airport: Shannon Airport (EINN) Confidence Rating: Information is only available from news, social media or unofficial sources Narrative: The Gulfstream II jet force landed on a racecourse at Mallow, Ireland, after running out of fuel. The aircraft had encountered stronger than anticipated headwinds during a transatlantic flight from New Jersey to Shannon. Low visibility conditions due to fog caused Shannon Airport to close and the aircraft did not have sufficient fuel to divert to Cork. A runway was constructed on the site, allowing the Gulfstream to depart on May 27, 1983.

1983 G-II XA-FOU…. Mexican registered jet XA means commercial-corporate use X-ray Alfa Foxtrot Oscar Uniform Jets ejecutivos, S.A. Televisa NY ( Newark ) - Shannon - Munich Unforcasted strong head winds and bad Wx at destination wiith limited fuel reserves ( Gulfstream G-II had more than 9 hrs fuel ) the only alternate was the horse race track radar vectored by the Irish controller! From Shanwick! The owner of the Gulfstream Emilio Azcárraga Milmo president of Televisa from Mexico, was asleep at the time of the landing at the soft racetrack soacked by rain! The twin engine Gulfstream withstood the short soft landing with minor damage to the landing gear….. Any landing you can walk away is a good landing!!!! The Gulfstream Corporation from Savannah Ga. CEO at the time gave Capt. Ocaña and crew a Diploma! Televisa always has been Gulfstream customer since always!

I was visiting Mallow , from Toronto Canada, just two days before the plane took off. The little town (then ) was festooned in flags and banners. I saw the jet fly right over the town, my friends told me all the kids would have that day off, to see it leave. Seems the jet did a small hop to Shannon, for a mechanical check up. I still have the front page of the local paper, telling the whole story. At that time, a local joke was that the Mallow racecourse “ now has the longest parking lot in Ireland.” Thank you for the memories, nothing like good Irish humour.

I'm surprised by the number of bowler hats, top hats, etc. in a trade procession. I wonder why there was an American flag in there, about 3.30 in, and I'm amazed to see footage of Irish National Foresters: judging by newspapers, they seemed to take part in every public march in the country since they were founded in 1877. The livery in the mayoralty procession, about 4.30 and 6.30 in, looks rightly daft.

OK; here we see six musicians, instead of the eight aboard. That can be explained by the absence of the two pianists. But Titanic had two ensembles aboard: a 5-man string orchestra (violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano) and a string trio (violin, cello, and piano). So what accounts for the portrayal of a flute and a clarinet?

Song: Nearer My God to Thee (Horbury) Lyrics in the video: Nearer my God to Thee. Nearer to Thee. There let the way apear, steps on to heav’n. All they thow sadden me in mercy giv’n. Angels to beckon me. Nearer my God to Thee. Nearer to Thee. And with my waking thoughts, bright with thy praise. Out of my stony greaves, Bethel I’ll raise, so by my woes to be. Nearer My God to Thee. Nearer to Thee.

This version of 'Nearer, My God, To Thee' is called (Horbury Version) and have another version called (Propior Deo). But the mostly known version is the (Bethany Version) wich was played on the film 'Titanic' in 1997.

It was reopened in 2009 but more closed railway lines should be reopened of course to stop pollution, car accidents/road deaths and traffic jams. In summer time there should be a 24 hour trains and St Stephen's Day trains would also make since as well.

nymuseum Thank You !!! Never been on board anything like that. Back in the early and mid 1960's, I was transported courtesy of the U S Navy, on LST's, LSD's, AKA's, APA's ( Gator Navy ) through out the Caribbean and the Western Pacific including Viet Nam. We usually had good chow but the accommodations down in the " holes " ( below deck ) Really SUCKED !!! Check out some of the Video's and Slide Shows on the VMA 225 You Tube Channel for some of these on board adventures !!!

Watched a Video of this event on You Tube, a couple of weeks ago. A Viet Nam Vet from Pennsylvania uploaded the Video. I was in touch with him, because we served in Viet Nam at the same base but at different times. But hey, a couple a weeks is a long time for me to recall everything. Very little in the States about this event, except in the Irish Central !!! Thank You !!!
