Unfortunately for them, there are harsh economic realities, and what goes around comes around. I saw this film in the theater with my mom-the animated one. They used to release the classics once a year. This... I will watch it-I won’t lie-but I’ll do so high. An achingly beautiful film that Disney risked everything he had to make has been reimagined as this: a film so bad it feels like the late Ed Wood is somehow still with us. A $300 million train wreck. I couldn’t look away as a child because of the immense beauty and a story that allowed you to suspend disbelief. I won’t be able to look away from this either-simply because it’s a spectacular train wreck.

Why thank you. As an older person, I always felt that satire was the purest form of comedy. It was quite popular in the 1980s....not that I am "funny" per se...but there are some persons that enjoy it. Thank you very much. You made my day. I love how the woman on the far right of the image looks exactly like Barbara Bain, wife of Martin Landau, who unsuccessfully auditioned to play Spock. Had Landau won the role, I'm sure he would have worked Bain into the cast as he did w/ Mission Impossible. In an odd twist, it was Leonard Nimoy who replaced Landau when Landau and Bain left Mission Impossible.

Back in the 70's when Star Trek was on prime time on monday nights on British Tv I would watch religiously. Save for the four banned ones, of course. This one wasn't banned by the BBC. I do not remember it all from back then, though. Maybe it was a bit beyond me at the time. Back in my youth I remember I thought Galileo Seven was awesome because it was action and Metamorphosis was dull and talky. Now I love the latter as it's such great character drama and how the former gets at Spock does slightly irk me. Anyway, last time I watched this one I thought it was a perfectly decent episode. But I didn't think it had enough story to maintain fifty mins. It rather ran out of steam before the end

This is one of my favorite TNG episodes too, My take was a little different. I thought it reflected badly on the morality of the Federation. After all, the holodeck characters ability to question their reality as the detective did would seem to me to qualify them as sentient beings. And the Federation condones creating them and destroying them for the amusement of the crew. Sounds a tad like slavery.

Sincerely, I don't know what is worse in video title. If QI, which is not use to measure anything scientific whatsoever or the fact the education has ALWAYS being political. Maybe you mean that is not ideologically aligned with your "values" (or hegemonic values) anymore. Anyway, good luck with that.
@ScienceFictionFantasyTheater19 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment-it’s a thought-provoking perspective, but I must respectfully disagree on a few points. First, while I acknowledge that education has always intersected with politics to some degree, the primary purpose of education has traditionally been to teach academic subjects, foster critical thinking, and prepare individuals for the challenges of the real world. Historically, schools emphasized objective knowledge in areas like mathematics, science, literature, and history, striving for rigor and intellectual growth. In recent years, however, it seems that the focus has shifted from academic excellence toward ideological alignment. Standards of difficulty have fallen in many places, leaving students less prepared to tackle the complexities of adult life. For instance, we now see a growing trend of prioritizing subjective beliefs or social narratives over foundational skills. Education should challenge students to think critically, not merely to adopt the prevailing beliefs of the moment. Second, while IQ may not be a perfect or comprehensive measure, it serves as a symbol of the broader discussion about merit and standards. The issue isn’t the metric itself-it’s the concern that we’re lowering expectations rather than encouraging everyone to rise to their highest potential. Lastly, this isn’t about clinging to "my values" or "hegemonic values." It’s about ensuring education remains a platform for learning and exploration, not a tool for indoctrination into any ideology. Agree or disagree, we should all care about whether education genuinely empowers students or simply molds them into ideological copies. Thanks again for engaging-I truly believe these conversations are essential for improving the system for everyone.
@ricardosimao864019 күн бұрын
@@ScienceFictionFantasyTheater Well. Education has never been used for critical thinking, maybe you are thinking of philosophy. Because the literate people in a nation of illiterates, had the power because literate people controlled commercial exchanges.... do you remember that only royalty, monarchy and/or big religion figures were educated? Not slaves, not women, not small burgesie? There you have it. About QI, the test does NOT measure intelligence in ANYWAY. The person who invented it, Alfred Binet, wanted a measure to know which children would have to have more attention in classes and which would be fine, in his worlds is an imperfect way to estimate intellectual maturity, not intelligence and depends, for example, if the child in question have been eating properly, exercising, and have a healthy social interaction. If you have your doubts, I present you the Flynn's effect :"1984, James Flynn discovered a 13.8-point IQ score increase between 1932 and 1978. In other words, people's IQs increased by about 3 points per decade. Basically, the Flynn Effect found that people's IQ scores rise over time. People's IQs increased by about 3 points per decade." Either you admit that the evidence is that we are becoming smarter, not dumber, or that QI do not measure intelligence. Finally, about ideology ...... what can Ia say? It is very hard to know your own ideology, that is why people think they are "just logical" whereas everyone else who do not share your views is "blinded by ideology". I challenge you to get ONE THING in your environment and say, this could be built differently, thinking about why is it build that way, why should it be improved and what it means to improve things in a broader social view. Do not use any scarecrow like "it is human nature" or "better people made it that way" or "it as always been like that" please. Let's see how hard thinking critically about trivial things can be
@ScienceFictionFantasyTheater18 күн бұрын
@@ricardosimao8640 Your argument, while drawing on historical insights, falls short in addressing the central issue of declining academic standards and measurable intelligence. While it’s true that literacy once conferred power in societies where access to education was limited, that historical context does not negate the fact that modern education systems are failing to maintain rigorous standards. Today, we have numerous metrics that evaluate intelligence and educational outcomes, and they paint a troubling picture. For example, global studies consistently show declines in literacy and numeracy skills among younger generations compared to older ones. Critical thinking, once a cornerstone of academic excellence, is increasingly sidelined in favor of ideological conformity or standardized test preparation. As for the claim about IQ, while Alfred Binet’s original intent may have been limited, the test has evolved into a tool that measures cognitive abilities like reasoning and problem-solving. Modern intelligence assessments have predictive validity for academic success, job performance, and problem-solving capabilities. To dismiss these advancements is to ignore the nuanced evolution of the field. Finally, the notion that education was always tied to power structures in the past is irrelevant to the discussion of whether modern systems uphold or erode academic rigor. In the past, education may have been limited to elites, but its purpose was still to cultivate intellectual capacity within its audience. Today, standards are increasingly diluted, and grade inflation, simplified curricula, and lowered expectations are evident. The problem isn’t that education is inherently political-it’s that it has veered away from fostering true intellectual growth and critical inquiry.
