Playful saxophone is so good. It’s become a staple Mariokart sound in the last few games, especially 8, so maybe that’s why!

Don't forget, this sonata composed in 1959 but Mario Kart appears in 1992.

Otis never fails to impress with his lyrcism, and technical ability. This piece has always stuck with me, since I first started playing classical saxophone music, and till now. When I listen to Otis play, I'm reminded of why I play the classical saxophone.

This piece always seems to bring out the true musician in a saxophonist. It is not that technichally challenging, instead it recquires something more. It recquires the player to put a large part of themselfs into the piece, it may seem like a simple task, but very few can do it. Otis Murphy may be an amazing saxophonist, teacher, and mentor, but he is truly an amazing musician above the rest. His embelishments make this piece feel so ethereal. Thank you Otis, for letting us hear you.

I love this piece. It reminds me of being a young saxophonist ,when I was just starting out in 1972. Now 46 years later I realize that I have yet just scratched the surface of what it takes to dedicate your life to the saxophone.

@ 0:35 the theme is different but nonetheless instantly reminded me of this deliberately kitschy theme used in twin peaks.. here it has this incessant Nyman / Glass sense of pulse and drive which pushes me to the wall with a pathos I prefer to have heard with a different orchestral backdrop and at a later moment in the concerto.. this is the first movement right? wow.. how to top that pathos already heard in the beginning.. playing louder? More notes? There's a reason why you don't start with heavy to digest food in a five course meal offered by a cook of a fancy restaurant who knows what he's doing. @ 6:08 baby elephant walk? As far as pure saxophone playing is concerned, there are things I enjoy here; this guy obviously has great technique and great projection of sound.
