My thoughts, Hand wrap is much easier, can even be done on the dark once mastered, that twist needs eyes, Use it in my caravan camping all the time

А какой смысл от таких сложностей??? Делаем обыкновенную петлю на шнуре. И по принципу удавки одеваем на вертлюг. Все. Вяжется за три движения, 2-3 сек. Надёжней узла просто не существует. и развязать можно в случае необходимости.

Will this work with a board, or does it have to be cylindrical, like a pipe? I needed to carry a 16' 2x6 I'm my Ford Ranger. I had to put one end overhanging my cab, the other hanging off the tailgate at an angle. I don't remember how I secured it, but I wondered afterward if a pipe hitch would have been better.

Yes, the second is a constrictor tied in the hand; I use this all the time when you can throw the knot over the end. Both are in Ashley's, along with a few more that are slightly trickier to tie but very effective with string -- you won't be tying many sacks with standard paracord. (Although I do often use microcord for this application.)
