I'm 25, a disabled Infantry Vet (minor hip injury that doesn't stop me from walking or hiking, hearing, and PTSD). Currently looking to use my GI bill, was going to get an agricultural degree, but now I'm thinking of getting a forestry degree. I have a wife and 3 kids, I plan to buy land for an off grid homestead near a state/national park, blm, or other public land. I'd live in Arizona or Utah, we have a lot of it. My question is what are the odds I will be able to be a ranger where I live?

Hey thanks for the great Video. Well is it mandatory to be an US citizen to work as a ranger? I have the German citizenship and a Bachelor degree in Geoscience. We had several projects about environmental issues so thats why I was thinking about to get more practical experience outside.

Any thoughts on the Penn Foster Career School program in wildlife forestry conservation? It's fully online and awards a career diploma worth 30 something CEUs. What jobs could I get with that diploma? I'm in California. Thanks.

I have sooooo many questions! But, some of my biggest questions are: 1. What is a day in the life of a park ranger like? Do you wake up early, get to bed late? Do you eat trail food for lunch? Do you have pets? How much time do you spend with family? 2. Do you have to live in an RV to be a park ranger? Do you all have bunk houses rangers can use for a season? How can I learn more about living arrangements for park rangers? 3. How do you stay comfortable outside?! I struggle with wearing the right kind of clothes, layers, and sometimes I forget to wear lotion in winter (which makes me very itchy). 4. How much do you need to know before you can be hire able? How much can you learn on the job?

I've been working as a seasonal worker at a state park this year, I honestly love it. And it's been so good for me mentally, I struggle with depression and anxiety, and the one thing that has always helped me is nature. Being out in it has been amazing, and I've really enjoyed the working at the park. I'm thinking this is what I want to do, so I'm looking into becoming a ranger.

I know you don't work for that park, but would you mind me asking what the hours are like on average that you and your coworkers put in? @hiwasseeocoee6075

Honestly, it just depends on the park you serve at. In comparison, here at Hiwassee/Ocoee State Park I conduct more educational programs, Law Enforcement, First-aid and Rescue response than with the Corps of Engineers at Stockton Lake. While I served there, I focused much on Park Maintenance & Resource Management. Hope this helps.
